The Tibetan Monastery in Delhi Peaceful and Spiritual

The Tibetan Monastery in the Majnu ka Tila area is adjacent to the Gurudwara that I visited last month.

The monastery is located within the densely populated Aruna Nagar colony but is still calm and peaceful. The prominent feature of the monastery is the cymbals. And there are many in this monastery.

The large one caught my attention which was also vividly painted.

There is another row of cymbals on an inside lane.

The main place of worship is large, clean, and nicely decorated.

There is also a section with hundreds of lamps burning n the Tibetian tradition.

Within the narrow lanes is also the reflection of the spirit of Free Tibet burning in minds of the Tibetans in exile in India.

How to Reach

I took the Delhi Metro Yellow line from IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram and deboarded at Vidhan Sabha station, then piled up in a tuk-tuk to reach the Monastery.

  1. There is a main entrance for New Aruna Nagar via narrow lanes.

  1. There is another narrow entrance on the main Grand Trunk Road adjacent to a shoe shop that too passes through narrow lanes.

In either case, it opens up in a large open space where life stands still.

People are sitting on the benches, some are praying, a vegetable vendor is waiting for customers and all is well with the world.

The monastery is completely accessible from the main Grand Trunk Road with leveled pathways for the ease of a wheelchair.
The main place of worship has a staircase so a wheelchair may not be able to enter.
