The Sweetest Province in the Philippines (Bacolod)

If you happen to be visiting the Philippines and you have a sweet tooth, this province should be part of your itinerary.

Bacolod is a province in the Western Visayas, to date Bacolod is highly urbanized as business establishments aside of its famed tourist spots are visible here. Bacolod is known for its Maskarra Festival (Festival of the Masks) as it bears the tagline “The City of Smiles” but aside from this Bacolod is also popularly known as the “Sugar Capital of the Philippines” yup you read it right and that’s the reason on why I called it the the sweetest province.

For years, Bacolod has been one of the top producers of sugar in the country. You can literally see sugar canes around Bacolod and no doubt that they also have the best tasting dessert to die for.

I went to Bacolod June of 2018, Bacolod is less than two hours from Metro Manila by plane, and can also be travelled thru land and sea. I was surprised to see that Bacolod was highly urbanized and there are lots of malls and business in this province.

Bacolod has lot to offer, from its wide historical background, its numerous historical sites, beaches, resorts, food and its yearly festival.

The first thing that I did was to try the authentic Chicken Inasal ( Inasal means charcoal grilled), and the best place to try it can be found at the Manukan Country located at the back of SM Bacolod, it was a strip of restaurants serving Mang Inasal.

The following day I went to see the famous replica of the hobbit house in the movie “The Lord of the Rings”, well it isn’t exactly the same replica but its very similar, it can be found in one of the newest resorts in Bacolod, the Campuestohan Highland Resort. Aside from the hobbit house, the resorts offer different lifesize statue of animals and characters, plus different theme rooms for their guest.

I wasn’t able to visit and check out the Ruins in the afternoon because it was close for a private function. But given a chance, you must visit this place.

I ended my trip by tasting their famous pastry shop, the " Calea" I wrote a separate article for this. Just click the link below:
