The student dormitory in Belgrade named after Patrice Lumumba

Patrice Lumumba Dormitory, popularly known as Patris, was built in 1962.

In 1961, the construction of the Patrice Lumumba student dormitory began on Severni Boulevard. The plan was for this new student complex to consist of six buildings. In September of the same year, the construction of Building number III, an eight-story structure with 105 student rooms, commenced. By the end of 1962, all six buildings had been completed, adding 1,137 more accommodations for students from Belgrade University.

In the subsequent years, the Patrice Lumumba dormitory underwent multiple renovation projects. However, due to the deteriorating condition of Building Block II, it was evacuated in 1996. Due to financial constraints, the renovations on Block II were not concluded until 2013. Interestingly, a year prior to that, the student restaurant within the dormitory had been thoroughly renovated and reopened. As a result of the Block II renovation, the total count of student rooms increased to 443.
