The salt pans of Maras are located one and a half hours from Cusco city, its one of the World Heritage sites from 2008, its a well preserved 3700 salt pans from 1500 B.C. Water flows from an anderground acuifer which touches big salt rocks so water becomes soltier than the pacific ocean, the locals get salt from the evaporation of these pans during the dry season , best time to go from the end of april to the beggining of october.
