The Power of Community

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to share my journey as a Level 6 Local Guide here on Google Maps!
It’s been a rewarding experience contributing to the community by helping others discover new places, find helpful reviews, and easily navigate the world.

For me, being a Local Guide is more than just adding reviews or photos – it’s about making the world feel a little smaller and more accessible. Whether it’s discovering hidden gems in my city, offering tips on the best local restaurants, or simply helping someone find their way, it’s incredibly fulfilling.

Here are a few things I’ve learned along the way:

  1. Details Matter: Adding small details like parking info or accessibility features can make a big difference for others.
  2. Consistency is Key: The more you contribute, the better you get at spotting what others might need to know.
  3. Even a few words or a quick picture can help!

The Power of Community: The Local Guides community is amazing! I’ve learned so much from fellow guides, and I’ve been inspired by the positive impact we can all have.

I’d love to hear from others – what motivated you to start contributing as a Local Guide? What’s the most rewarding part of being a part of this community for you?

Looking forward to connecting and sharing experiences!

Hi @BOUFARES Welcome to the Local Guides Community. It’s great to know about your enriching experience in using this platform and to know about your tips to make Google Maps a better platform for everyone around the world.

My journey as a contributor started back in 2012 though I joined Local Guides Community platform a bit later. Here are a few things I learned along the way :

  • Preferring quality over quantity. I don’t chase after points, I prioritize sharing the experience with others who might visit the place
  • Details matter. I post long and detailed reviews and include Accessibility features like wheelchair access, ramps, audio visual tools, lifts etc
  • Keeping maps spam free. I make sure that I don’t post duplicate photos in reviews and restrict to adding 3-4 photos per place. I also remove any people or faces in the photos before posting them
  • Consistency. I make it a point to add reviews on a consistent basis, as I’m a history buff, I visit at least one heritage site a week and explore the history behind the place

I would also like to mention that each and every local guide, Moderators, Googlers have been very helpful whenever I reached out to them for any help, which is a big motivating factor in contributing to Local Guides Community.
Thank you.
