The only Cambodian man who collects technological antiques

Siem Reap is famous for its world known temples: Angkor Wat or Bayon but there are much more to see or do than that. I have my previous articles on what to do besides the temple. This article is to share about the gallery belongs to the mad-man (he called himself) who has been collecting stuff for more than 20 years.

His place named “Vimean Sokha”, he called himself a museum. Google Map is here

He has just moved his gallery from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, for about two months. Major of his collections included:

  • Camera
  • Bicycles
  • Bikes
  • Watches and clocks
  • Cars
  • TV and many other things.

Each set has up to 1,000 pieces or more. 10% of the items in stock are from locals and 90% are from overseas, including from UK.

It is worth a visit - let’s me tour you around the compound.

Layout of the gallery:

  • Antiques are shown in two buildings are connected to one another.
  • There is a café for you when you are tired from seeing around.

Entrance Tickets

  • 1$ for locals
  • 5$ for foreigners

Touring time

  • Self exploratory with 1-2hours at most

He is no doubt a crazy and enthusiastic person, hats-off to him for his zeal and perseverance to collect such unique and antique objects over a prolonged time and a huge thanks to you @Sophia_Cambodia for sharing such a delightful place with us. nice photos as always.

I especially like this place and the person since I woo like collecting such things though they are not so precious now, one day they will be

@TusharSuradkar thank you and glad to know that it is also your passion.

Nobody would spend so much time and money to collect these stuff, only ones with passion would be so enthusiastic to do so.

Hello @Sophia_Cambodia ,

Thank you for sharing this great location and amazing photos with us.

Do you love old and vintage stuff? Was there a particular piece in the collection that really impressed you?

Personally, I love everything vintage! At home I have several old objects, but I don’t really keep them as a decoration, but rather made them functional. I’m sharing with you a photo of an old suitcase that I turned into a table.

@BorrisS interesting, the suitcase looks heavy but it is something I often see in the movies. Great that you still have it. Is it expensive and where do you find it?

I was impressed by the bicycle with such a big wheel, I wonder how people ride on it without falling down. He got many of them in his gallery.

Just amazing @Sophia_Cambodia . I just wonder where the owner found all these items and what motivates him in to collect such items in Cambodia. It’s good that entry fees are low but I wonder does he get enough visitors with such compelling Cambodian sites to visit such as Angkor Wat or Bayon?

@AdamGT interestingly, it is his passion since he was a kid and his wife also supports him.

He want to show these things to the world. There are many things he couldn’t find space to display so still hidden behind the curtain.

He only expects 50 people to come visit his place in a day to cover expenses but he gets about 200-250 so he could survive.

Items, he got from UK, Indonesia and many other countries.

Amazing, isn’t it?

Yes it’s amazing @Sophia_Cambodia and I’m sure many people in Cambodia would not know about or have seen many of these items before in their life!

@AdamGT it is true, I did not know about him when he was running this business in Phnom Penh for almost 5 years.

I have seen so many different things and I requested him to display Cambodian antique. He said his space now is very small and he already had that in mind.

@TravellerG I am very happy to hear that :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, it is true. It takes years, much money and so much commitment to get these much.

He has collected about 10 cars but he only kept ones. He sold those cars to others.

“…He sold those cars to others…” …Oh sad,

Because he has too many and he got no space to keep them @TravellerG

The gallery does not have enough space even for now that he has to keep extending and also keep them in the storage at this moment!

Oh… OK… I can understand - everything costs…

‘Collection’ is a very costly affair…

Thanks for your update & sorry for being late… dear @Sophia_Cambodia

Hola @Sophia_Cambodia leyendo tus publicaciones, algo atrasado.
