The Mystique of the 500-Year-Old Shaitta Banyan Tree

If you want a day tour plan from Dhaka then I will suggest that you can visit Shaitta banyan trees. Shaitta is a village in Jabadpur union of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district. It is almost 500 years old.

Here the cool breeze, mild weather and the call of the birds and the calm greenery are enough to fill the mind. This place can be unique to get rid of urban boredom, the remnants of which will remain for quite some time. The place is quite suitable for arranging a meetup program also. Food and water can be easily procured. There are many ponds, in the quiet environment of the cool shade of reeds.

Mystery of the Bot-Pakur tree

One is a banyan tree and the other is a pakur tree surrounded by mystery. it looks like a forest. A huge forest has been created by the branches of two trees. The two trees are currently occupying 5 bighas of land, giving out numerous roots through numerous branches.

Local traditionalists consider these two trees as gods. They also established the Kali Mandir under this tree. They have several beliefs about these two trees.

History

It is known that in Dhantara village, the ancestors of Devidas clan planted a banyan tree and a pakur tree on their land. At that time, in such religious sentiments, the ancestors of the slave clan performed the marriage by playing musical instruments. Along with the marriage instruments, the marriage of the banyan tree and the saffron tree was completed by recitation of mantras by the Brahmin. They also organized food for many people. So naturally the locals call these two trees husband and wife.

People of the Hindu community have built a Kalimandir under the banyan tree. Various events including Kali, Saraswati, Buri Puja and Dasami and Basanti fairs are held there. Every year during Pahela Boishakh various events are organized under the tree.

The Shaitta Banyan Trees in Dhaka’s Dhamrai Upazila is not only as a testament to centuries of mystery but also as a symbol of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Beyond the whispers of legends, the tranquil ambiance and verdant landscapes make this destination a perfect retreat for those in search of both peace and cultural richness.
