Gulab Jamun is by far the most popular dessert in India. The procedure of preparing this delicacy is quite simple and it comes in many varieties of taste and appearance. In our part of region (Hyderabad), these soft spongy balls are usually made from dough of powdered milk (e.g.: Nido, Nestle) mixed with flour. Then they are deep fried and later soaked in sugar syrup. Chopped dry fruits is added as toppings.
The approximate preparation time for this popular sweet is around 15 minutes. Since, the preparation of this dessert involves deep frying and usage of sugary syrup, they contain high calories (~112 Calories in each Jamun).
This dessert kinda looks like Nigerian Puff Puff which is fried dough balls. It isn’t served with syrup however it is sometimes coated with sugar. @fasi6083
