Our own cities hide the best treasures. We often try to look far away when we have the best of the places to visit right under our noses. I have lived in Bangalore all my life and have completely fallen in love with the city. It has been called with various names like Garden city and Silicon city. It is one of the most happening places in India. Amidst all the chaos, Bangaloreans seek to go on vacation to far off lands to find peace.
Bangalore is a hub for all kinds of enthusiasts from music and art to food and entertainment. So these places have become essential for the survival of the obsession of its more than 12 million population. Of the various places in Bangalore, a few of them have captured my attention. Also, it is sad to see these places losing their thousands of visitors day by day in spite of them being the best, as they have always been.
I am a fun-loving person and enjoy visiting amusement parks with my family and friends. One such park is the Fun World-Water World in J.C Nagar. I have always come here as a small child with my parents and cousins. With the opening of bigger places like Wonderla, people have started migrating to the new and fancier places. This has made people like me who always loved FUN WORLD to avoid crowds and have the whole place to themselves. Often we forget to enjoy the small things we used to enjoy. So, I recently visited the place with my boyfriend and was a perfect one-day picnic.
Bangalore is a very old city and had been known for its cultural heritage. Music, dance and theatre have been a few of its top art forms that have been always popular. Unfortunately, art is losing many of its enthusiasts due to the hectic life of Bangaloreans. I perform plays and am actively involved in theatre and get heartbroken with the reducing response I get from the people. Places like Ranagshankara used to have multiple plays per day will the auditoriums getting filled to the last seat. We do see house fulls now but is a relatively less turnout for most plays. The quality of the plays being performed has not been reduced, but still, the interest shown by localities has drastically reduced.
And this not all that Bangaloreans are forgetting. Bangalore is also known for the vast number of foodies. But places like the VV Puram food street aren’t getting all the attention they used to get. Darshinis ( small South Indian restaurants ) continue to serve their best food in spite of their reduced crowd. People are forgetting the original taste of Bangalore food served by these old places.
After discussing so much, we cannot forget that Bangalore has more than 1000 temples. For every kilometer you travel, you are sure to see a temple. If lucky, even more. Few are very old while others have been recently constructed. Due to the increase in the number of temples in the city, the number of devotees visiting most of these temples have drastically reduced. Many temples with history and rich heritage have been abandoned. One such temple is the Hayagreeva temple near Majestic. I visited the place when it became super popular for the miracles of the deity. But now, all of a sudden people stopped visiting this temple and barely 20-30 people visit every day.
There is so much to see in so little time. We all make choices about how we want to spend our only weekend. Some decide to go to visit the old authentic places while others like exploring new places. Whatever you do, just go out and have fun. Also, don’t forget to upload pictures and become the best local guide ?
