The most famous tree in New Zealand

It used to the pine tree on the One Tree Hill. The famous pine tree was sawed down by an activist in 2002.

Such a loss for the locals.

The Wanaka lone tree is the top 1 famous tree in New Zealand now.

This Lonely Tree by Lake Wanaka has appeared in the photography works of many photographers and is well-known in the photography circle as well as the international tourists. The background is Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps. New Zealand photographer Dennis Rademacher’s shooting of the tree in 2014 won New Zealand’s best landscape photo of the year. This tree should be the most photographed tree in New Zealand.

The best timing to photograph this tree is during Sunrise or Sunset. I had to do it in the midday which is not ideal.

The attraction is open 24/7 - however, you are not allowed to touch the tree any longer after a vandalism incident happened earlier this year.

It’s FREE.

Great photos @OliverKIWI !

We loved seeing this tree ‘floating’ in the lake! We ate lunch just across the street, and even though it was a bit cold and windy, it was perfect!

@OliverKIWI The tree growing directly in water! At least you can’t see the ground. It’s incredible! Thank you for sharing.

Nice photos @OliverKIWI . Is this what they call the lone pine? If so your post is timely given that we’ve just had ANZAC day.

@AdamGT This is not a pine tree. The one on the One Tree Hill was. Sadly it’s gone.

We have a special ANZAC memorial service on each individual home basis. TV news had a lot of coverage and it was really touching!

I was about saying; “why will anyone go through the trouble of ‘swimming’ to touch the tree?”, before I went back to the post and read; “by the Lake”; it appears to be growing right out of the water! :hushed: :ok_hand: :clap:t3: and looks stunning even at mid-day.

You know, Oliver, some times, I can relate with this tree (and growing out of water too). I have been able to overcome a lot of life’s challenges and keep standing and spreading warmth to those around me because; I believe that; it is not so much as what I am passing through or the awful experiences I have had! No! Those ones are to shape me to become that ‘one lone tree’, ‘one of most photographed in the world’!

My friend @OliverKIWI provides the Photography, I provide the commentary, we are in sync like that. :grinning:
