The making of the exquisite Zobo Drink - Nigerians' all time favorite Drink!

There is a very delicious and flexible drink made from dried hibiscus flowers which we call Zobo drink in Nigeria.

I have called it a flexible drink because there are several ways of preparing it

Have you heard of the zobo drink? Have you tried preparing a drink from dried Hibiscus flowers?

Ingredients

  1. Dried zobo (hibiscus) leaves
  2. Pineapple
  3. cucumber
  4. Oranges
  5. Cloves
  6. Ginger

Preparation

  • Wash the Pineapple with water thoroughly to take out all sand and dirt that may be on it. The Pineapple is added to the zobo to reduce the ‘sourness’ of the zobo
  • Peel the Pineapple, setting the back aside from the main pineapple
  • Wash the oranges and cut in quarters removing the seeds
  • Rinse the dried zobo leaves, so the sand and dust it must have accumulated can be separated from it
  • In a clean pot, add water, the cucumbers, oranges, pineapple, the zobo leaves, Ginger and cloves
  • Leave the boil for about15-20 minutes
  • Set down, take out the succulents; oranges, pineapple (exclude the pineapple peel), ginger and blend
  • sieve out the liquid from the pot into a clean container
  • using a strain cloth (chiffon cloth), squeeze the juice out of the pulp of your succulent into the liquid sieved out
  • feel free to add sugar or other artificial sweeteners to taste

Example of artificial sweeteners;

After which you turn into Pet bottles and refrigerate!

Bon appetit!

That’s incredibly attractive and unique, but it also seems to be quite nutritious. I find the combination a bit unique, but it should be excellent given how much fun you had making it.

Thanks for dharing such a unique drink @Ewaade_3A .

Cheers!

Zobo and Kwunu and favouites in the Northern part of Nigeria. I like your recipe but the idea of artificial sweetner will not go for me since is for home consumption. Whichever way I still prefer it to these soft drinks full of CO2
