The Listen Feature is Playing Sound at 5x Speed on Google Maps

Since yesterday I have been noticing a problem with Google Maps: whenever I am going to any business profile or any other profile listed on Google Maps and tap the Listen icon, a weird sound is coming. It seems that the sound is coming in at a 5x or 10x speed that is not understandable.

I thought that there might be some setting regarding that to control the speed of the voice, but till today I haven’t been able to figure this out. I have also tried the Listen feature on Google Translate, but it’s working absolutely fine. I have attached the screenshot of the version of my Google Maps app.

Is it only me, or is anyone else facing the same issue?

I’m not aware of a Listen feature in Google Maps. It is for translations or music? Could it be an external plugin?

If you face any issues with Google Maps, please raise a ticket on the Google Support forum. Local Guides Connect no longer handles Maps-related technical issues. You can read more about this here.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen it is for listening the pronunciation of the translation of the name of that particular place. I don’t have any idea regarding any external plugin on Maps.

Thanks for providing this valuable information @mrinmoiHossain I hope I will get a solution there. :folded_hands:

I’m not having any issues in the listen feature in Google Maps, @Shaunak
Are you facing the problem in every POI, or just in some specific ones?
I suspect something related to your device, more than an issue in Google Maps

Ich habe auf Google Maps keine Hörfunktion. @Shaunak das ist neu für mich.

Here is the sound feature, @Annaelisa , @MortenCopenhagen

Just on the right of the name of the business

@MortenCopenhagen You’ll need to visit a POI that has a listing not in your chosen language and when you slide up the POI panel, the speaker icon should show. It’s a Google Maps feature to allow the user to hear what the POI’s title and address are when spoken in the native language. Possibly useful when trying to give instructions to a taxi driver perhaps and you don’t speak the local language?!

For example:
When I choose a POI in a foreign country (primarily non-English speaking):

When I tap on the POI panel to enlarge it, the speaker icon will appear:

And when I tap on the speaker icon:

By the way, I don’t see that speaker icon when I try on POIs in English speaking countries (I assume because my language is set to English).

Thanks @Shaunak for highlighting this feature which I, too, wasn’t aware off until I read your post and did some light testing. With regards to your problem, I went to that same POI in your post and it plays at normal speed for me. In future, please share links so that it’s easier for others to test as well

Others can test it here:
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport
Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre

The speaker icon only shows on mobile.

I’m not having issues in my app @Shaunak

It’s likely out dated app or device issue.

Can you try to clear cache and app data?

Make sure your app is updated.

Try to restart your device.

Oh that’s sad @ErmesT that means it’s only me facing this issue. It’s something beyond my understanding that the same feature is working fine on Google Translate, on YouTube, Spotify, etc the sound is coming normal but my device is only impacting the Google Maps app. Anyway thanks for your comment.

Thank you so much @AdrianLunsong for your kind response and guidance. I will definitely follow your instructions in future. :folded_hands:

Thanks a lot @NareshDarji Ji, for your kind guidance. I will definitely try out your steps mentioned above. :folded_hands:

As such, there are no issues with any of the POIs, including the one you shared as an example, I have tested them as well.

This may be a device-specific issue, as I am using the same Android version of Google Maps and everything is working fine on my end.

You may consider trying a different device to help determine and confirm the cause dear @Shaunak.

Danke für den Hinweis @ErmesT, ich kann es normal nicht sehen, weil auch auf Google Maps die Rezensionen übersetzt werden und in meiner Sprache gelesen werden können.
