The Honeycomb Heart of Hudson Yards

ConnectLive 2025 Post Series. This post is a part of my series before, during, and after ConnectLive 2025 New York City showcasing unique attractions, activities, and facts about the city

Rising like a futuristic beehive in the heart of Hudson Yards, the Vessel is more than just striking; it’s a testament to modern architecture and urban design. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, this intricate network of 154 intertwined staircases, 2,500 steps and 80 landings, opened its doors in 2019. It quickly became an iconic silhouette against the Manhattan skyline.

Did you know that the Vessel was originally intended to be a climbable sculpture offering great city views? While full access is currently paused, its unique presence remains undeniable. Each of its copper and steel components weee prefabricated in Italy and then shipped and assembled on-site! :sparkles:

Beyond its impressive stats, the Vessel has sparked conversations about public art and urban development. Its interactive design invited exploration and offered a different perspective of the city, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals seeking a unique photo opportunity :camera_with_flash: and a bit of architectural wonder. Though its accessibility is currently limited, the Vessel continues to stand as an unforgettable landmark in New York City.

@JordanSB I am enchanted by this majestic architecture, even though I am in love with Gothic architecture, but this building is really cool.

Hello @JordanSB , welcome back after CL NYC.
Oh, The Vessel is still not opened yet :smiling_face_with_tear:
Did you know the shocking story behind it?

I was there on November 2023 near the Christmas, so there was a hot air balloon decoration in front of The Vessel.

I do love NYC and wish to be back again someday :folded_hands:t2:
That’s why, I love most of the landmarks, including the amazing skyscraper buildings there.

This might be one of my best shot for NYC that I used to my desktop image whenever I miss NYC :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Looking forward to hearing more stories from you after this NY trip.
Take care!

I love those photos, @Velvel! I wish I could’ve gone up it, but this was my third time just staying on the ground and photographing up!
