The "Golden Ring" of Russia. Yaroslavl #TeamRussia

This post is a part of #TeamChallenge from #TeamRussia.

Today I wanna tell everybody about one of interesting cities of Russia - Yaroslavl. This city can rightfully be called as a center of Russian “Golden Ring”, that also includes such cities and towns as Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal

Location

Yaroslavl located in the northern part of Volga region, 265 km northeast from Moscow. City center and most of historical buildings are situated on the right bank of Volga river (there is beautiful and green embankment of Volga). The population of this city is more than 600 thousands people, what makes it one of the biggest cities in European part of Russia.

Climate of Yaroslavl is quite pleasant for live, with cool to cold winters (not so cold to Russia) and warm and sunny summers. Thanks for it’s location, Yaroslavl has not completely dark nights in June and in the first half of July.

History and modernity

Yaroslavl was founded in 1010 by grand prince of Veliky Novgorod and Kiev Yaroslav the Wise, and the name of the city means “Town of Yaroslav”. Having more than a thousand year history, Yaroslavl is the oldest city on Volga river. The foundation of Yaroslavl is closely related to the foundation of Yaroslavl Kremlin, or Chopped city. Kremlin played the role of fortress on the bank of Kotorosl river (this small river flows into Volga also in Yaroslavl). Over the years, Yaroslavl has steadily grown and developed. In 1218, the city became the capital of Principality of Yaroslavl, and many new temples begin to build in 13th century. After the Time of Trobless in the begining of 17th century, Yaroslavl became one of the important trade cities of Russia, the second-large city after Moscow. In 1777 became the center of new Yaroslavl Governorate.

In Soviet period Yaroslavl became one of industrial centers of the country. New factories appear in the city, include Yaroslavl Motor Plant, tire factory and oil refinery. Today, Yaroslavl is the city, that preservestraditions and looks to the future, and one of the most popular tourists cities in Russia.

The most important places

Preserved to this day historical center of Yaroslavl is a part of UNESCO World Heritage, and thanks for this, it is forbidden to build buildings in the city center that radically change the face of the city. The main dominant of Yaroslavl center is Church of Elijah the Prophet, that situated on Soviet square, near the Government of Yaroslavl Oblast. This church is outstanding monument of architecture of the Yaroslavl school of architecture 17th century. Church of Elijah the Prophet has important relic - part of Seamless robe of Jesus. This church also has richly decorated interior with a large number of icons and frescoes.

Thank you for bening part of the #teamchallenge with #TeamRussia, @TimurMamedrzaev , and thanks to @helga19 for tagging me, of course

Yaroslav is indeed a great place, and I can appreciate on the photos on your album (also, as you may have seen, I love cats).

But what is really amazing is your video. Great, moving us on an ancient age.

I am also tagging Google Moderator @DeniGu , for checking this link. It is normal that a city have photos added “by the owner”?

@ErmesT , I’m glad that you enjoyed my post.

By the first reading of your feedback I was afraid that I did something wrong (about the owner of Yaroslavl), but now I understand that it’s not my photo was so strange on the maps:-)

Hi @TimurMamedrzaev ,

It was really interesting to learn more about Yaroslavl and see the beautiful sights there! This post is a great contribution towards the #TeamChallenge for #TeamRussia.

My only piece of advice is to add the Google Maps links to the locations you mention, just like @ErmesT did, as this way other Local Guides can easily explore them and even add them to a list!

@ErmesT I’m going to check the photos you’re referring to. Thank you for the tag!

Feel free to share Google Maps links in every post you wish, @TimurMamedrzaev ! When it comes to challenge posts, the location links just add a little more clarification to your already informative content and great photos.

I agree with @DeniGu .

Adding a link to Google Maps, or more than one, will help us to know more about the place that is the subject of the challenge, @TimurMamedrzaev

As you see, I always search in Google Maps for the places mentioned on a challenge, in a virtual tour that makes more interesting the story

Thank you @DeniGu for checking.

Thank you for writing this interesting post about the city of Yaroslavl. I guess that taking a deep tour walk through the city is an experience on its own.

What are the places you would recommend for those who visit there for the first time?
