The'' Golden Ring'' of Russia.KOSTROMA.#TeamRussia

Today I continue to tell you about the most interesting places in Russia. This post is included in the #TeamChallenge series.

THE GOLDEN RING

The Golden Ring is a ring of cities northeast of Moscow, the capital of Russsia. The region known as ZALESYE

It is list of these cities:

Yaroslavl

Kostroma

Ivanovo

Suzdal

Vladimir

Sergiev Posad

Pereslavl-Zalessky

Rostov Veliky

These ancient towns ,which also played a significant role in the formation of the Russian Ortodox Church, preserve the memory of the most important and significant event in the Russian history. This towns have been called ‘’ open air museum’'and unique monuments of Russian architecture of the 12-18th centuries, including kremlings, monasteries, cathedrals and churches. These towns are among the most picturesque in Russia .

Today I would like to tell you about Kostroma, city, which I have visited this year.

KOSTROMA–is historic city in Russia,it is a part of Golden Ring of the Russian cities.,it is located on the Volga river and Kostroma river.Population about 285 thousand.

History

The city was first recorded in the chronicles in 1213,Kostroma like other cities of Easten Rus was sacked by the mongols in 1238.It then constituted a small principality under leadershipof Prince Vasily the Drunkard,a younger brother of famous Alexander Nevsky.Vasily ruled Kostroma half a century, until the city was bought by Ivan 1 of Moscow.Boris Godunov had Ipatievsky and Epiphany monasteries rebuilt in stone.Kostroma was twice ravaged by Poles. The heroic peasant Ivan Susanin become a symbol of the city’s resistance to foreign invaders, you can see several monument to him in Kostroma. You will see the photo in my album.I can visit the cafe Ivan Susanin ,where there are famous picture on the wall "Ivan Susanin "

The future tsar Michael Romanov also lived at the monastery. It was here an embassy from Moscow offered him Russian crown in 1612.

Ipatievsky monastery was visited many Romanovs tsar,Nicholas II ,the last Russian tsar also.

In 1773 Kostroma was devastated by a great fire.Afterwards the city was rebuilt.Empress Catherine ordered the architects to follow her own design.Kostroma became some nice in neoclassical style. There are some example–a fire tower(in my photo),rotonda on the Volga embankment and cenral market with merchant church in the centre.

Sights and landmarks.

Built in 1559-1565,the five-domed Epiphany Cathedral was the first building in the city, its medieval frescoes perished during a fire several years ago.The minster houses the city’s most precious relic,a 10 th centtury Byzantine icon called Our Lady of St.Theodore.It was with this icon that Michail Romanov was blessed by his mother ,when he left for Moscow to the Russian trone.

The Ipatievsky monastery is unique -

with its 16 th century walls, towers, belfry, and the 17-th century cathedral.

There is fine tent-like church in the village Krasnoe-on –the-Volgamay be recommended to visit.

In Kostroma is the Museum of Linen, there is an ancient Russian clothing, fabric, linen. Here you can see how the masters work at the loom.Unique products made of birch bark can also be bought. And what a wonderful Museum of snow Maiden in Kostroma! New year all year round! Snegurochka is the granddaughter of Ded Moroz in Russian. Kostroma is the capital of cheese! We visited a local market, very old, where merchants used to sell their goods. And how many delicious products of local farmers you can buy

Google Photo.,

Успехов вам.
