Hello people!
I want to share with you my visit to this amazing place last March.
Is it a museum? a garden? a Conservation Institute? **The Getty Center **is all of it and more!
(Just to clarify: in Pacific Palisades you can find __The Getty Villa __another stunning place but sadly I couldn’t get a ticket during my short time in the city)
Diving in Getty history
The Getty Center is part of The John Paul Getty Trust ( along with The Getty Villa) a cultural and philanthropic institutions dedicated to the visual arts who opened to the public in 1997 but the history started decades ago.
In 1953 a businessman and art collector J. Paul Getty established The J. Paul Getty Trust, after a year he opens his Ranch house in Pacific Palisades to the public to share his art collection. In 1974 Getty Villa opens to the whole public remodeled after an ancient Roman villa.
In 1976 Mr. Getty dies leaving to the Trust a fortune of $700 millons for “the diffusion of artistic and general knowledge.”
How to go
From my _hotel _in Downtown LA untill The Getty Center was a travel of 1 & 1/2 hr by bus, really easy with my one week pass for any public transportation, even I used it when I went to Disneyland.
How to get the ticket
Admission is free, but requires a timed-entry reservation. You can check more here about times & hours
When you arrive and after you pass the check point security there is a train to get to the top where The Getty is placed.
What can you expect
You can spend a full day here enjoying many exposition of art, modern design and sculptures.
Honestly I’m not a big fan of museums but this place was such a revelation for me. I had a great time here contemplating the architecture without knowing anything about this subject, you know walking through the different floors, rooftops, you can get many views and perspectives of the whole place and the city too, becareful you can loose in this huge place.
The gardens are marvelous, there are a rooftop called the “Cactus Garden”
The "Lower Terrace Sculpture Garden" takes your breath away and makes you feel like you can’t believe what your eye are looking. Here is placed the “Robert Irwing’s Central Garden”
What do you think? Beautiful right?
There are coffee shop and restaurants and a souvenirs shop.
Have you ever been here? You liked it?
