The Edge, New York City

Photo captured by LG @jayasimha78 on top of The Edge.

I recently visited New York City to visit my daughter who recently moved from San Francisco bay area to Big Apple! One of the attractions I visited is The Edge.

The Edge is an observation deck located in Hudson Yard, New York City. It is located on the 100th floor of of a skyscraper in the Hudson Yards, Hudson Yards is located on the west side of Manhattan. Another attraction in Hudson Yards is an interesting architecture called Vessel.

In fact The Edge is known as the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. It offers breath taking panoramic view of New York City. You can view several New York City land marks like Central Park, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, One World Trade Center, Hudson River and various other prominent land marks.

Another cool feature of this deck is a triangular shape with a glass floor, I felt really dizzy walking on this glass floor, which gives a floating effect at that height. There are also various interactive exhibits and information panels to learn more about the city’s history and landmarks.

We took a walk on the High Line on the previous day, which is an old subway line converted in to a popular park. Here is a Shot of Sky Scraper on which The Edge is located from The High Line.

Here is a Close up shot of Edge from The High Line. You can see people standing on the observation deck!

The entrance or the elevators to The Edge are located on the 4th floor of the 30 Hudson Yards, shopping mall. It is recommended to buy tickets ahead of time. Since we visited on a weekday, it was not crowded and there were no lines to go up to deck.

Here is the entrance to elevator on the fourth floor.

Once you take a ride in the high speed elevator and go up 100 floors, you end up in this observation deck. When we visited there were spectacular rain clouds, which you can see in the cover photo of this post. It also started drizzling during our visit and it was extremely windy too. This added to the thrill of standing at 100+ floor observation deck.

Here is a shot towards North of Manhattan, you can see some cruise ships, Hudson river and also you can see George Washington bridge from a distance.

Here you can see Central park and several other Sky scrapers.

Another shot of Hudson river and rain approaching from a distance!

Here is a shot of downtown Manhattan, you can see One World Trade Center, and also tiny Statue of Liberty from a distance.

Here is a shot of Empire State building!

This is the Glass floor on the observation deck, popular area to take pictures lying down, since it started drizzling after a while they stopped people from walking on the glass floor for safety reasons.

Here is a shot of colorful steps located on the observation deck. There is a restaurant on the top.

There are few more floors! above observation deck!

This is us on the corner of the observation deck, you can see spectacular view of New York City.

Inside the floor there is a floral decoration.

There is Souvenir store and also a bar on this floor, where you can buy Champagne, beer, Wine and snack!

One more Panoramic shot of North of Manhattan, you can see some rain in a distance. Hope you enjoyed The Edge through my lens! More posts on my New York trip coming soon.

The Edge is a great place to take photos @jayasimha78 . Great photos and I love the rainbow colored steps at the observation deck.

Looks like you visited on a rather overcast or perhaps stormy day! Is that rain in the Central Park view?

@AdamGT Thank You! It was overcast, windy and got few drizzles too. That in fact made some pictures interesting. Yep we could see some rain in central park, and also on New Jersey side.

Absolutely unreal photos, @jayasimha78 (as always)! I’d say you got lucky with a little rain chasing off the crowds. Thank you for putting this together for us to see.

Time for your daughter to join the LG ranks so you two can highlight the East and West!

@JustJake Thank You for your kind words. Yep rain and clouds added some special effects to the pictures.

You are right, when you move to city like New York there is lot of opportunity for LG activities. I have to motivate her to contribute to Google Maps!
