The blue town of Chefchaouen, Morocco

Chefchaouen is a small city in the north of Morocco, in the Rif mountains, this town is known above all for the peculiar color of its streets, and blue and white houses.
Labyrinthine corridors lead you to lose yourself, with ups and downs, we find craft shops, carpets, spices, etc. obviously you have to haggle as it is an art of Moroccan commerce.

2 years ago I was around here, and I captured these photos …
Hope you like…

Hello @helga19 thank you for your always so kind words.
I was in Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez and other cities that I do not remember the name at this time.

Hello @MaxWalsh ,

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos with us, they all look like postal cards!

Chefchaouen, mainly its old part, is really a photogenic place! I’ve been there for three days back in 2012 and I really liked it. Did you visit the fort in the middle of the old town?

Usually, those who visit this area go to see Akchour as well! Personally, I didn’t have the time to do it, did you go there?

Did you visit other cities in Morocco? What did you enjoy the most during your trip? Did you taste the Moroccan food?

Hello @MaxWalsh

This reminds me of the sleepy blue village of Juzcar, nestled in the hills of Andalusia and one of the most recognizable villages in Spain.

Hello @NareshDarji unfortunately the page is not working very well to be able to investigate. But when opening Google Maps I have noticed how extensive Rajasthan is. I was in Jaipur and there are other places that I have marked on my wish list, like Jaisalmer and Ranthambore National Park

Hi @BorrisS
I was only one day, and I went from Fez. I wanted to know this city, so I booked a tour and we ventured. I knew the fort, but I did not go to Akchour, now that I have seen photos of that place, I want to go, I loved it.
I have been to Marrakech, Fez, Casablanca and other cities that I don’t remember the name of at the moment. We also did a night in the desert, previously we saw the sunset in the middle of nowhere.

Without a doubt, Morocco is a country that has a long way to go, and we will have to return to explore more.

Hello @AdamGT I did not know this town in Andalusia, it is very similar, not only because of the color of the houses, but because of being surrounded by mountains

Hi @MaxWalsh

Amazing! As a fan of blue color, I can’t miss this place when I visit Morocco someday.

When I saw the Google Maps street view of Chefchaouen, I saw even the graveyards here are in blue and white colors.

Do you know if there any history why this area is in blue and white colors?

@CrystalKoh When you visited Morocco, you’ve been here, haven’t you?

Hi @Velvel how are you?
The people of Chaouen paint the walls and floors of the houses several times a year, and even paint the floors of the streets, coinciding with the changes of season and the annual celebrations. This almost obsessive work, whose objective is to purify, sanitize, bring freshness and drive away insects, has forged the uniqueness of the population. Today it is more touristy.

Sounds like a great trip @MaxWalsh !

Indeed, Morocco is a very beautiful and divers country.

I guess, you went to Merzouga to see the sunshine in the desert! Am I right?

PS: I grew up and spent all my life in Fez.

Yes @BorrisS , it was in Merzouga where I spent the night, I remember we went by camel to see the sunset, and the next day we got up early to see the sunrise.

Hello @alokeme Yes, it is a tradition that the Jews carried, and it refers to the blue sky that is an important symbol of freedom.
