Who doesn’t love a great fish right? Well, I think I found the best one i have tasted so far.
Its called Ohrid Trout (Ohridska Pastrmka) and it was divine. Prepared perfectly with lots of vegetables. In the restaurant they like to say it was sun baked And I agree, just look at that perfect golden color.
Ohrid trout or the Lake Ohrid brown trout (Salmo letnica) is an endemic species of trout in Lake Ohrid. The Ohrid trout is a specialty in Macedonian gastronomy. And it’s found only in the Ohrid Lake in Macedonia.
You can find it in most restaurants in Ohrid, but the best one is at Saint Sofia restaurant which right next to the one of the oldest churches in town.
Amazing treat and a must try if you are visiting Ohrid.
Thanks for sharing this absolutely awesome dish with us! I really like fish and this plate looks so inviting!
Do you live in Ohrid, Mecedonia? I’m from Bulgaria, but I still haven’t been in Ohrid, even though it is not that far away from Sofia. Are there any other nice dishes which I can try there when I decide to go for a visit?
Maybe it’s not a bad idea to add a review on Google Maps about the restaurant you’ve visited recently if you haven’t done that already. This will help the other visitors to decide which meals are good there.
No, I don’t live in Ohrid. I come from Macedonia but currently nomading across Europe. This was from the last time I came back to visit friends and family in Skopje, so we had a trip to Ohrid. You should definitely visit Ohrid. Its not far from Sofia and actually there are a lot of tourists coming from Bulgaria to Ohrid. I guarantee you will have a awesome time.
Other dishes you can try is burek, a flaky pastry with a variety of fillings, of which spinach and white cheese is arguably the best. Fish soup from a variety hooked straight from Lake Ohrid. Also dont miss “gomleze” - its something like a pie, specially baked. Here is a photo:
Oh, and of course the first thing I do is leave reviews and photos of the places and restaurants I visit on Google Maps So when you visit, and open Google Maps, you will definitely find me with my tips and photos
Thanks for the great tips and suggestions. I would definitely like the gomleze! I’m looking forward to see more of your stories from all around Europe then!
