Sometimes while planning the perfect trip you open Google maps to see what kind of places are around your hotel or next to the museum you’d like to visit, and find that amazing place you’d like to eat in, or that picture perfect spot atop of an office building, and you wonder if you’d be able to get past the language barrier. You scroll trough the reviews only to find that no one speaks about that exact piece of information you’d like to know, and while some people are adventurous you find yourself filled with anxiety.
If you identify with this you might be just like me.
I moved from Mexico to the Czech Republic, and tried to be prepared beforehand learning a bit of the language, and adding tons of places to my “Want to go” list in Google maps; of course being part of the Local Guides community made me a bit more confident when entering a new place, since other guides add their perspective on almost everything you want to see.
While visiting a new restaurant in Wrocław I saw that it worked as a buffet but the cashier didn’t speak English, after observing some people I realized that one person did speak enough English to explain what I needed to do, I had been standing for 20 minutes observing people go by with their food, haha.
I like to add new details to review other restaurants or public spaces, for someone out there just like me, so they know what to expect. From answering questions like “Does the staff speak English?” to guiding people to order in a Polish restaurant.
I hope my reviews help fellow anxious travelers, so I keep pushing myself to communicate, and learn new things about new places others might like as well.
Thank you Local guides from around the world for also helping me with your reviews!
