The added roads pin is not visible in Google Maps from our list of edits

An interesting way to see where we have contributed in Google Maps, if we use the web version from a desktop computer, is to select our contributions from our profile in Google Maps.
By scrolling through our contributions we will see the relevant pins appear on the map. By hovering over the business name in the list, the relevant pin will be highlighted on the map, as you can see in the example below relating to my trip to Japan.

This applies to our photos, our reviews, and even our edits of listings in Google Maps. But for some obscure reason, this doesn’t apply to the roads we’ve added to Maps.

I believe for most Local Guides this may not be a problem, but for active Roaders, especially those who add dozens or even hundreds of roads every day, this is a huge problem. The quantity of these active and tireless Roaders increased a lot during the last TRAC organized by @SholaIB , and their (and my) frustration at the disappearance of this feature is ever greater.

One of the daily activities of those who add many roads to Google Maps is in fact the verification of the edits, in order to add new segments to connect to the newly approved roads, or to verify those that have not been approved after 90 days.

This is usually done by searching for Accepted and Not Accepted edits of roads in our contributions list, to verify how many of them are related to a specific area. In this way they (we) can save time, because we don’t need to jump for a place to another for every single edit. Actually, as the pin with the position of the edit is no longer available, to see the location of the edit we need to click on every single edit.

This is a huge waste of time, but from Google Maps’ perspective this is definitely a glitch that should be fixed.
For this reason I am tagging a Google Moderator, @MoniDi , to escalate the issue to the relevant Google Maps team

I was hoping Google Maps would appreciate more and not less the volunteer contributors. This can be seen as a step in the wrong direction.

Hey @ErmesT ,

Thank you for tagging me. I will let the team know about this issue.

Thank you so much, @MoniDi , hope the glitch will be fixed ASAP.

Well, I don’t know if in this case it is a matter of love, @MortenCopenhagen , but indeed it is a bad symptom, a symptom which, together with others that I recently wanted to highlight, shows a loss of attention to the changes made, a lack of testing in all the possible implications of a change made to the software.

Thank you for bringing this up, @ErmesT . Indeed, like my morning coffee, scrolling through my edit list is part of my routine. The Pins on accepted and rejected edits made the process much easier.

What is most frustrating about the current process, @MoniDi , is that we lose our place in the Edit List after clicking to view the edit. If I’m reviewing 100s of edits and I click on #94, once I’m done looking at and doing whatever I need to do, I’ve got to scroll back through my edit list to get to #95. With the Pins, we could see the rough location of the edit and zoom in without ever having to click into the edit list.

Thank you for the feedback, @JustJake

I didn’t want to mention the painful “back home, first place” part every time you click on a link in our contributions in Google Maps for desktop (reviews, photos and edit), but only because it’s not a "new " problem. But you’re right, this is something Google should fix. The interesting thing is that this doesn’t happen on mobile, where when you return to the list you are exactly in the position of the previously clicked link.

Jake is right, @MoniDi , and this part should be escalated too.

Would you rather have a separate post about this last issue?

Thanks for your insight, @JustJake ! We will take everything into consideration.

@ErmesT , it won’t hurt if you write a separate post about the “back home, first place” issue as you named it, but for now I will escalate everything together, and we’ll see if it will be fixed all at once or it will take some time. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you @ErmesT , @MortenCopenhagen and @JustJake for highlighting the problem as contributors we are facing with the recent changes. As a Desktop user, I contributed more than 100 rods per day during TRAC campaign, it is my habit to check the feedback everyday and locate the road with the help of pins. Without the pin, it takes lot more time to locate the rejected roads. I hope the responsible authority will take note of the issue.

@ErmesT When I scroll through my list of added roads, I only see the pin pop-up at random points along the way. Doesn’t seem to be something i can reliably depend on for identification.
