You get rid of the wax using oil. Any oil. The covering of the seed is yellow to orange and is sweet. It is generally eaten fresh but can be used in dessert. Or even pancakes.
One recipe uses raw jackfruit with coconut and chickpeas garnished with spices. Common in India raw jackfruit is appearing abroad as a gourmet food that is akin to faux meat.
Mangoes also arrive in summer. They go by variety. India is home to hundreds of car it is each one different in size, colour and taste.
As each region’s mangoes ripen at a different time mango season can last from February to July.
Yes, jackfruit is healthy @Ruxellan . No fertilisers or pesticides are used to grow Jack fruit. It is rich in fibre nutrients. Superfood as Millennials would call it .
You are right we get jackfruit and mango together. We can see mango flowers in our trees now @giribpai . But small Jackfruits can be seen in our villages now. Thanks
I’m very familiar with mango’s @giribpai and although they’re rarely in season here in Europe, I make sure to get one when they’re ripe and fresh.
I never new Jack fruits required so much work though. I’ve never seen one at the stores here but will make sure to try my luck with one if I can find them. Making pancakes with them sounds delicious.
Any other recipes you can recommend for someone who’s never handled a jack fruit before?
Good to know @MukulR . The size of the fruit depends on the tree and variety. So it is possible, even the small fruits will be ripe and ready soon. Enjoy the fruits when they are ready.
Thanks for your comments @MortenSI . It is likely you may not find jackfruit in Europe. I don’t know if you noticed the size of the fruit. It is large. It can be more than 30 cm. in length. Larger ones could even be about 60 cm. long! Jackfruit is sweet. So I guess you can try puddings with it. It can be mashed and used in any food that is eaten sweet. I have written earlier at our city’s ice cream brand Naturals, which has a jackfruit infused flavor. So, no limit to imagination. Think of what you can do and go for it. There is freeze-dried jackfruit by the brand name JackFruit365. Lookup for that. The fruit smells too strongly and maybe one reason why it is not universally popular. Something like the Rambutan in South East Asia. Enjoy.
There are endless options @giribpai , I would love to try that ice cream you’re talking about.
It doesn’t sound like a fruit you just load into a bag and carry home from the grocery store. I hope I can find it somewhere around so I can try experimenting.
