I was very much excited to visit the Famous Kalika Mata temple situated on the peak of Pavagarh hill and a part of the Champaner Pavagarh Archaeological Park Gujrat. And my wish was fulfilled during this Road trip to Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Mahakali Mandir is an ancient Hindu Goddess Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. It was built in 10th to 11th century. It’s situated at Pavagadh hill within the fortress of Pavagadh. It can be easily accessed via Ropeway which operates from 6 am to 6 pm and further step way to reach the main sanctum, Gujarat. Thousands of devotees are visiting this temple.
Devotees have to climb about 400 steps after the ropeway top station. While climbing after reaching at the foothill of the main Shrine there is a water body known as Doodhiya Talav which might be used as ritual tank for performing the sacred rituals in the main Shrine. There are numerous shops of worship materials and sacrifices. Restaurants and many shops with handicraft items. To access the main Shrine steep climb via steps. Main Shrine is dedicated to Kalika Mata and at the right and left side the images of Maha Kali and Bahuchara Mata all incarnation of Goddess Durga. All devotees are visiting this shrine are very excited and passionately praising the Goddess Kali and this enchanting is creating quite spiritual environment. Prasad is available on the counter after paying a nominal amount. This is considered one of the Shakti Shrine where Goddess Sati’s toe were dropped. It’s a major center of faith among the devotees. During Navratri a major fest organised with Gujrati traditional Garba dance. Nearby tribal devotees are participating in all sacred activities. This is a centre of communal harmony too. As at the top inside the dome above the main sanctum holy shrine of Saddan Shah Peer who was a Sufi Saint and he had meditated for 40 days at this place. As it was ruled by rajput ruler Jai Singh who lost the battle with Mahmud Begada in 15th century.
This is almost a pilgrimage and this temple is referred by 15th century writer in his play. Though it’s a Hindu sacred Shakti Shrine but a major attraction among all the tourists. It needs two to three hours and panoramic views of surroundings fascinating the visitors. Also a major attraction among the history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers. Doodhiya Talav Jain temples Saat Kaman etc are the major attraction at Pavagadh hill.
