Temple 3 The Most Imposing Structure at Nalanda Archaeological Site

This is a very unique structure as compared to the other remains and was constructed in a sequential manner in several phases. The different staircases belong to the fifth, sixth and seventh phases respectively. The fifth phase is the best preserved. The construction appears to be of the sixth century. The niches on the outer walls of the temple have beautiful stucco images of Buddha and Bodhisattvas. Only two of the four decorative solid towers remain. Unlike the general plan of other temples on the site, this temple faces north. There are indications of a huge image of Buddha in the upper shrine room. Recent excavations have revealed a chariot-shaped temple near the south-east corner and a panchayatana temple near it. These are the archaeological details provided by the ASI for the convenience of tourists and visitors, which prove to be very helpful in understanding this important world heritage. Therefore, these information should not be ignored.

It looks like it needs more care to preserve such a historical place. Those small bricks are very common in ancient structures, unlike the big bricks in modern architecture.
