About Pottery in Bangladesh: Source [ Off road Bangladesh]

Pottery is the art of earth ware making. The history of Bangladeshi pottery is as ancient as it is illustrious, dating as far back as the Mohenjodaro and Harappa civilisations where earthenware was found after the excavation of Mohasthangarh in Bogra (300 BC). The folk arts of these categories are now being used most tastefully in modern design. Pottery has now become a commercially successful product in Bangladesh. Clay pots are widely available in rural Bangladesh. kumars sell their products at the weekly village bazaars or in roadside stalls. Bangladeshi potter has always laid stress on the basic form and texture of his articles. The wheel is of the common kind, thick with shoats‘ spokes, and terms on a pivot of hard wood on metal, provided with a large hub that acts as a revolving label. The potter throws the kneaded clay into the center of the wheel rounding it off, and then spins the wheel. As the whirling gathers momentum, he begins to shape the clay. When it is over he severs the shaped bit flour the rest. As for the types of wares, pottery comprises true distinctive types of wears.

With the advancement of technology, ceramic and plastic are replacing the pottery in Bangladesh. The pottery despite having skills cannot compete with the production number and cost with the technology tuned pitchers and pots. However, the conscious people, journalists and the civil society of Bangladesh make campaign that potter and pottery should be revived as the Bengalis tradition lies with them. The situation of pottery in Bangladesh, over the last few years, has improved as the potters started to make very attractive designs on pottery items and the quality and aesthetics.

Hi @MahabubMunna ,

Thank you very much for showing us these beautiful pieces of art! It’s great that pottery is so well developed in Bangladesh and so many handmade toys, decorations and cooking pots are still produced. This is so valuable gift for every occasion.

In Bulgaria we also have similar type of colourful earthenware pots, they are called ‘‘Gyuvech*’’.*

These are beautiful @MahabubMunna. I hope this local craft stays active in Bangladesh with your young countrymen and there will always be a market from them so these clay objects will be continually made for purchase.

I personally cherish mine:

They always keep company while I am using my desktop. A small elephant would look nice with this collection would you agree?

Who else is on #TeamBangaledesh with you? I am sure your Team has lots of great content to share about your country here on Connect for @ermest ’s #TeamChallenge Connect writing post series.

Cheers,

Karen

This is so beautiful #TeamBangladesh What an excellent post. Thank you for sharing this tradition with us. My favorite is the less colorful: the soil elephante toy. It’s so pure and simple that -in my opinion- stands up from the rest. Bravo!
