Sweet Things From Singapore

Singapore is a tropical country that has rich diversity in cultures, languages, religions, and definitely culinary. Talking about culinary, I believe most of you have your favorite places to eat that will make you revisit the places whenever you come back to the country. So do I. This time, let me bring you to experience the sweet things from Singapore that will make you happy and lighten your day

Here are the places to enjoy sweet tooth that I definitely will revisit again and again when I come back to Singapore :

1. Tiong Bahru Bakery

It is a French bakery that has several outlets in Singapore. 2019 was my first visit to Tiong Bahru Bakery outlet inside a department store at Orchard Road. It has small space, just like mini cafe. They also provide several small tables for dining in. As a green tea lovers, my first purpose coming to Tiong Bahru Bakery was to try their Green Tea Almond Croissant and their another variant of pastries that is said delicious by many people.

Unfortunately, there was no Green Tea Almond Croissant available that time. We decided to try their Chinese New Year special seasonal menu, which is Bak Kwa Kouign Amann (SGD 4.50). In this bakery, we could request the pastry to be served warm. This pastry is totally perfect! It has crispy texture and easy to bite with a sweet taste along with the small pieces of bak wa (Chinese pork jerky) and white sesame. Highly recommended and we really satisfied with Tiong Bahru Bakery

And the next year, we had breakfast in Tiong Bahru Bakery exactly at Tiong Bahru area (Eng Hoon Street)! This bakery is popular for breakfast, just like what we saw that it was quite crowded with locals and foreigners in the morning. They have breakfast with pastry and coffee or tea. A good choice to start our day in a nice place with good pastries. It is indeed a paradise for me that full of variant pastries and cakes. All of them are displayed beautifully and make me confused which one to try. I feel like I want to try all of them

Here are what we tried :

Green Tea Croissant (SGD 5.20)
Finally, I could try it. This croissant is quite big. It is filled with green tea cream, topped with green tea powder, icing sugar, and almonds.

Apple Chausson (SGD 4.80)
Apple lovers, you are going to love it! A layered pastry filled with the real apple and the sauce, sprinkled with sugar on the top.

A must visit and recommended bakery in Singapore!

2. Moosh Softserve
Moosh Softserve is a Halal ice cream stall owned by a Moslem. This compact parlor is located in Haji Lane, the popular lane in Singapore. Since the place is small, it can only accommodate for about 7-8 persons for dining in, so that we could see that people mostly coming for takeaway order.

The softserve ice cream is served in five flavors, such as Smores, Horlicks, Nutella Brownies Cheesecake, Milo Monster, and Ondeh-Ondeh in regular and large size. The regular size portion is quite big, suitable for sharing for two persons.

We tried their all time signature flavor, Nutella Brownies Cheesecake in regular size (SGD 4.5). A cup of super soft yet easily melted chocolate Nutella ice cream with chocolate sauce, brownie crumbs, and biscuit crumbs. The dominant taste is definitely came from the chocolate that is less sweet. Such a perfect companion during a hot day in Singapore! I will be back again to try the other taste while I am in this area.

So, what is the sweet tooth place in another city or country that you would love to revisit again? What is your favorite food there?

The green tea croissant looks delicious. I like the simple cream cheese croissant (Medium size) and can easily eat 3 to 4 pieces in one sitting. Do the bakeries charge any extra fare for dine in ? @Velvel

Teh @Nyainurjanah yes, all of them is so sweet just like you and me

No, I don’t remember the name one by one, but I remember the one that I like, such as Ba Kwa Kouign Amann. The order system here is we just go directly to the pastries and cakes display, tell the staff which one that we like to order, for some pastries, we could request to make it warm, then go directly to the cashier to pay the bill.

Btw, Teh if you come to Singapore, you should try the ice cream above! It is a Halal ice cream, so that it’s Moslem friendly

@fasi6083 Croissant is one of the best pastry that could best served with various toppings from sweet to savoury. Even the plain croissant also has a good taste!

No, the bakery doesn’t charge any additional charge for dining in. But we need to pay the Goods & Services Tax (GST) where the GST in Singapore is 7%.

@TusharSuradkar You’re welcome.

The first menu that I tried at the bakery was Ba Kwa Kouign Amann. It’s a seasonal menu that’s only available during Chinese New Year.

And for the next, I would like to try the cake, savoury pastry, coffee
 Oh my
So many things that I want to try :joy:

How about you? Do you have any recommended dessert place in the US that you would like revisit again?

Teh @Ant_Bad_Yogi Good choices! Since I’m sweet already, so I don’t need to eat something that is too sweet  LOL forget about it

I like sweet things, but I like less sweet taste. So, the softserve ice cream has less sweet taste. Do you also like less sweet taste?

Oooh
@Velvel more things for me to try when I visit Singapore!! Thanks for sharing these lovely places!

I’ve got so many places that I want to visit again but I’ll keep it simple and share this place in Paris. It’s a famous restaurant that specialises in sweet treats. Expect long queues so book in advance if you can! It’s not cheap but it’s worth the experience because the decor is stunning and the desserts are really nice too.

Angelina Paris

As I’m unfamiliar with all the desserts, it’s hard to pick what to order so I ordered a selection. Please be careful though because some of them are super rich so you will feel quite full just eating one.

Oh I love a French pastry @Velvel I wonder how they adapt them to help them survive in tropical Singapore. Perhaps they brought some of the knowledge from Vietnam?

I think I might have put on weight reading this post - so delicious looking.

Both of the ambiance and cakes are so beautiful @AdrianLunsong Thanks for sharing. I’ve added the place to my “want to go” list on Google Maps.

Same with you, I think I’ll be “mixed up” when I go there to choose which one to try first

What kind of cake is it that similar with noodle on the bottom left of the collage above?

And What is you favorite cake there?

@PaulPavlinovich This French bakery is a local business in Singapore that is loved by the local and tourists, too. They have lots of fan and even provide delivery. I think that’s why they survive and have some branches even inside a shopping mall.

Do you have any recommended French bakery in Melbourne?
