The Sunan Ampel Tomb is one of the most famous religious tourism destinations in Surabaya. This site is the burial place of Sunan Ampel (Raden Rahmat), one of the Wali Songo, who played a significant role in spreading Islam in Java. Within the same complex, visitors can also find the Great Mosque of Sunan Ampel, which was built in 1421 and still stands beautifully as a center of worship and religious activity.
When I visited, the atmosphere was quite crowded with pilgrims coming from many different regions. Families and groups often come together to pray, pay respects, and experience the spiritual ambience that makes this place so unique.
Around the tomb area, there are many stalls and vendors selling various items. You can find religious souvenirs, prayer equipment, and books, as well as Muslim fashion, traditional Arab-Javanese culinary delights, and even toys for children. This makes the Ampel area lively, blending both spiritual and cultural experiences in one place.
For me, visiting the Sunan Ampel Tomb is not only about pilgrimage but also about appreciating history, culture, and the sense of togetherness. It is a must-visit site for anyone who wants to learn more about the spread of Islam in Indonesia and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the surrounding community.
