We see a lot of great photos on Connect, and we have also noticed that Local Guides enjoy taking part in challenges. Since it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere, we decided to start a summer photo challenge. Even if it’s winter where you are, you are more than welcome to join!
The theme is: Your definition of summer through a photo.
If you want to participate, here are the rules:
Every Local Guide should share only one original photo that represents their idea of summer in the comments below.
The image should be horizontal (or landscape).
Please describe with a few sentences why you decided to share that particular photo. Where did you take it?
What does it mean to you? What device did you use?
Feel free to enter with a photo you created specifically for this challenge, or one that you have already shared on Google Maps. If you share your own photo from Google Maps, make sure to link the location.
Submissions are welcome through the end of summer (September 22)
The team will look for originality, and we will take into consideration comments and likes the participants received from the community.
Local Guides can also nominate their favorite entry using the Local Guides Nomination Form. How to do it? From the “Is there a specific feature you’re nominating them for?” drop-down menu in the nomination form select “Other.” Then, in the “Tell us what makes them special and why we should feature them on Connect” field add a link to the comment with the photo you want to nominate and let us know why you chose it. To get a direct link to a comment, all you have to do is click on the three dots at the bottom left-hand corner of the comment and select “Permalink.” The page will refresh, and the generated URL at the top will lead straight to the photo comment you wish to nominate. Copy that link and paste it in the field mentioned above.
Three of the best photos will be featured on Connect and might even be featured on our social media channels. Without further ado, let’s start the challenge!
Note: We strongly recommend that you follow your local guidelines for traveling and maintaining a safe distance in public spaces.
It is going to be a great thing @KlaudiyaG . We will be able to see a lot of stunning photos based on the theme of this Challenge. Thanks a lot for arranging this.
Hello @KlaudiyaG thank you for this wonderful idea. For my contribution we go back, way back in time to the warm summer of 2012.
Me and my group of friends had a tradition of going to what ‘used to be’ one of the coolest summer festivals in the world.
A CAMPINGFLIGHT TO LOWLANDS PARADISE
The festival is more commonly calledLowlands Festivaland is a annual festival that is held at Biddinghuizen (NL) on a terrain next to Walibi Holland.
It is a Dutch music and culture festival that took place on 17, 18 and 19 August 2012 in Biddinghuizen. It was the 20th edition of the Lowlands Festival.
Ticket sales started on Saturday, February 4 at 11:00 AM. At 1:00 PM, exactly 2 hours later, the regular tickets were sold out. Not strange as it offered so many bands, performers and culture. See here the almost endless list of artists.
As the full name shows, this festival is three days and includes camping. Me and my friends invested in a huge army tent (10 x 5M) big enough to sleep in with 25 people. We bought it years ago and this was our place to be on the camping. Finding a good spot always meant leaving super early, having at least three strong man as we needed to lift the heavy tent across ‘the bridge of death’.
We managed to find a perfect place partially in shadow so the sun won’t burn you out of the tent in the morning. Next to a place that is reserved by our national radio 3FM camping for the lucky ones that had won tickets. Every year there was a secret acoustic session with surprise artist. Rumours were all ready going round it was going to be…
Taken with Canon 60D and EF16-35mm/F2.8L USM at ISO 200, 35mm/F8.0 and 1/100sec.
What this picture means to me
It means the world to me, thinking back to good times. Sun, fun, music, art and most of all friends. What’s a world without them? If you want to have a better look at the picture here it is at Google Photos were you can zoom in.
This was so cool standing front row at this mini gig.
Check the links down here for the actual performances.
My name is Anthony and I would like to share this photo I took in Switzerland this summer. The moment I took that photo I knew I had to share it because it meant so many things.
The picture was taken in Lavertezzo a valley in the Italian canton of Ticino southern Switzerland. The picture shows the famous Ponte dei Salti that crosses river Verzasca https://goo.gl/maps/KyNdVELTKQctWAuS9
The bridge gets its name because it is a place where people dive down to the river which is a popular place for bathing during summer.
This picture was taken during one of the best days during this Swiss summer, and it is very special because it unites all the elements of the swiss natural landscape; medieval architecture, mountains, greenery, water, blue sky and of course the swiss flag.
@KlaudiyaG Thanks once again and I am submitting this photo to take part in the photo challenge. Some basic info about the phot is given below:
I took this photo on the 4th of August 2020 at my village home (Chapri) when I went there to spend my Eid vacation. I took this photo on a Sunny afternoon. These tall trees I planted myself when I was a college student on the bank of our pond at home. So I have a very special relationship with them. But these trees are now in danger of falling as the flood of this year has affected the bank of the pond heavily. So I went there to see the situation and took this photo along with the sky. I did not think that this photo will be beautiful like this. When I see this one I took some more photos from different angles. I will make a separate post on them. To me, they are my connection with nature. They establish a connection between me and SOMEONE sitting above the sky. Another specialty of this photo from my point of view, you can see 3 types of different tall trees in a single frame. In this photo, you can see 1. Palm Tree 2. Coconut Tree, and 3. Betel Palm Tree I have used my smartphone Samsung A50S to take this photo. Thanks.
Besides there is sunshine in your picture @OliverKIWI . So it has a summer feeling all along. I bet some folks in Scandinavia could come up with this kind of picture(s) too.
Yes, we noticed that photo challenges are very popular on Connect and people enjoy them. This is why we decided to create one too. Hope you’ll join the summer photo one, @MahabubMunna .
Hello everyone, I’ll just leave my summer photo here:
Although I had many photos of this beach that I found spectacular, I chose this one that I captured with the drone, to show how beautiful it is.
To access Pontal Do Atalaia beach, you have to go down a long staircase that you can see in the center of the image. You can only get there by going down or by boat. I left my car parked on the small road above and we went down about 300 meters.
The attraction is the calm sea and greenish tones, perfect for bathing and diving, a true Brazilian paradise
I used a DJI Mavic Pro drone.
