Summer at Ngor Island, Senegal

Hi everyone,

For my first post on the Connect community, I would like to share with you a couple shots I took last summer at Ngor island, in Senegal.

Now this is a very touristic place with beaches of course but also very nice restaurants and hotels. But what caught the attention of the animal lover I am is the presence of these dogs. I don’t know their owner or if they have any, but I suspect that they live in some of the houses of the island and are allowed to wander around in the afternoon. This must be a very nice place to live as a dog: lots of room to run around, sandy beaches, and no cars!

For those of you who aren’t that much into dogs, it’s still a nice place to visit overall as hotel rooms are priced very reasonably while keeping a certain comfort. There are even apartments for rent. I would recommend Chez Carla, which is an Italian hotel and restaurant. Who doesn’t like Italian food? If you’re on the cheap side, they also have burgers and sandwiches!

My runners club used to have interesting training plans: a one-hour jogging session followed by a 30-minute swimming session to get to the island, then they have a party on the island and swim another 30 minutes to go back to Dakar in the morning. All combinations are possible but don’t worry: there are motorized pirogues if you aren’t in a swimming mood!

Surfers are welcomed too, but actually everyone really is.
