Suggestion: More Time and Clear Guidance on Flagged Posts

Sometimes, the system flags my post. I understand and agree with the rule that gives 10 minutes to review and edit. But the problem is that sometimes my post has already been live for many hours or even a whole day before it gets flagged. It was already hidden from public view at that point, but the system only gave me 10 minutes.

I think this process could be improved:

Give us more time to edit and review when a post is hidden.

Show clearly what part of the guidelines the post may have violated. We only get a general notice right now, but it would help to know if it was about tags, links, or another rule.

I don’t want to post anything against the community guidelines, and I know many new members also need time to learn. If the system could guide us more (like a Googler correcting our tags), it would make it easier for us to follow the rules and improve our posts.

I think Googler @AngieYC can answer this well.

Hi @SophatCHY , usually when I flag a post, especially if an active Local Guide, I want to give a warning first.
I haven’t seen the specific post shared by you, but the title is self explanatory.
How is the release of a new phone related to the Local Guides program and activities? Just because most of us mostly use a mobile phone to contribute in Maps?
Or because it’s released by Google?
In this case we could write about every we product in the market, including cameras.

Also, as indicated in the message visible on your screenshot, the message was flagged by the community. It means that several users have flagged the post as “off topic” or “spam”, because it’s not possible to hide a post with a single flag.
For more detail you can read:
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t/why-was-my-connect-content-marked-as-spam/463405
In addition a Googler will have to confirm or deny the flag, and eventually release the post.
Generally speaking I would suggest you to think, when you write a post, why that content is related to the Local Guides community and, in case of any doubt, to explain it in the post

Hello, @SophatCHY I meet that issue, and they have hidden 3 or 4 of my posts.

Hi @ErmesT,

Thanks again for your reply and for trying to guide me. I understand your point, but honestly, how it was said (“think before you post, why it is related”) doesn’t really guide people in a supportive way. I already know now that my post was not aligned, and I accept that mistake.

But my main question is about the system process. When a post is hidden, it only gives 10 minutes to edit, even if it was live for hours or a day. By the time we see the notice, it’s too late. Giving a longer time, or even better, some straightforward suggestions about what part of the guidelines was missed, not just a link to read the whole policy, would be more fair.

For me, guidance is not just telling people to think before posting, but showing what can be improved. That support would help new members and make the community more welcoming.

I respect the rules, and I’m learning. I hope my feedback can help improve the experience for everyone.

Getting your point now, @SophatCHY . But what I am reading from your screenshot is:

  • You can edit your post after 10 minutes.
  • The post will be automatically unhidden after editing.

This is very different from “you have to edit your post within 10 minutes.”
From what I know you have to wait at least 10 minutes, after receiving the message, to be able to edit your post.

Again, what the message says is that “Your post was flagged for moderator attention:
the community feels something about the post requires manual intervention by a staff member.
This post was hidden due to flags from the community”
So the only message that you can get is the one you received already.
Have you ever flagged a post? If not, please read How do I report inappropriate posts on Connect? to know what is the indication given by the community. You’ll see that there are a few options to choose from. These options identify groups of violations, not “which part of the post violates the guidelines.”
Also, as I said already, to hide a post it must be reported multiple times. To avoid inappropriate flags, a single report is not enough to hide the post.

When a post is flagged , the system gives us the possibility to check if the content is according to the guidelines, and to fix it. The real time limit is the time between the flag and when a staff member will check it. After that, it the post is found to be against out guidelines, the staff will remove it.
