Hi Local Guides team and community,
Today, I just found something while looking for another Local Guide’s profile.
When I type @username (example: @Siborey) in the search bar, the system shows posts related to that user, but it does not go directly to their profile page.
For me, I think it would be more useful if:
When we search @username, it goes directly to the user’s profile
Instead of showing only posts and discussions
This makes it easier to:
- Find members quickly
- Check their activity
- Connect with them
- Follow their contribution journey
Because sometimes we want to see who they are, not just their posts.
This is just my small suggestion as an active user — hope it helps improve the experience on Local Guides Connect.
Thank you!

I agree that it feels like a small detour to have to first opening a topic by the user to get to the profile page. But please keep in mind that adding a username in a search string is a very helpful tool to narrow your search. I often use this hence your suggestion could have an unwanted side effect.
I believe you are aware of these steps to find a user:
- Put the cursor into the search field
- Tap this icon
- Use the drop-down in second field to select Users

Agree @SophatCHY
and a good idea about adding a @ in the search
I tried it some weeks back.
I face this issue all the time.
The extra step to select ‘User’ from the dropdown is a pain and an unnecessary extra step.
I have submitted this via the Form.

Thank you @MortenCopenhagen and @TusharSuradkar for the clarification and for taking the time to explain the steps
Yes, I usually use the filter button → select Users → search.
It works, but, as you mentioned, it adds an extra step, especially when we want to jump to someone’s profile quickly.
My thought was based on user experience —
typing @username feels like it should take us directly to the profile (or at least show the profile as the first result).
But I also understand the point about not breaking the current search behaviour.
Really appreciate both of your inputs.
And thank you, @TusharSuradkar, for submitting it through the form — that helps a lot.
Let’s hope this can make profile search a bit smoother in the future.
