In Google My Business it is possible for a listing owner to add multuple categories to their listing (for example: hardware store, propane supplier). When I suggest an edit (for example on a listing that has not been claimed yet), there is only a single category field in the iOS Google Maps app.
if I suggest an edit to change the category, will this change the primary category or add a secondary category?
Hello @BrianHawthorne , local Guides can only edit the primary category, so if you suggest a change, it will actually overwrite the current primary category (if it gets accepted).
You can submit an idea in Idea Exchange to allow local guides to add additional categories as well, but I have been told that there was a lot of abuse when this was possible in the past.

I can see where this could have the potential for abuse, and if the feature was already tried and disabled, its probably best to leave well-enough alone.
