Unfortunately there are no good alternatives. The only one could be this one but it is terrible. In April I’ll do a new StreetView of the area so, maybe we can change.
So, once I have uploaded a new StreetView how can I change the relative image?
Thank for the support.
I use “Panorra 360” to upload 360 photos and also used GoThru but, for this last one, I am not (yet) interested. Both sw of the same company are great even if the Alin should invest a little bit into promoting video.
I vaguely remember one of the senior 360 folks responded and pointed out that some of the free 360 tools can be used to change and save the initial direction in a pano. But I forgot where. It was probably in one of the Facebook groups for Google Streetview trusted photographers. And they explained how to increase the likelihood of a 360 image being shown as the small icon. But photos from Google’s own streetview cars are more likely to be selected.
I can share which 360 FB groups I joined if you think it would be helpful.
I’ll read more into the FB group , where I’m also registered, to see if I can find some useful informations. I know that @potaro67 is there also. Btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY @potaro67 !!!
Ciao @MarcoDavoli , here we have an interesting problem:
As yo can see from the screenshot here below, Apparently there is a blue line that is passing just in front of the place. That blue line line is wrong!!!
The part of Via Dandolo in front of the Pizzeria is a pedestrian street, and the street view images in there are in fact related to Via Amendola (the main road) indicated by the yellow line. So when you click on the blue line in that part of Via Dandolo you get a 360° of Via Amendola.
Normally to show the 360° of the road in front of the place Google select the nearest 360° available, that in this case is the one mentioned in your post, in Via Dandolo (indicated by the green arrow).
You cannot, because the image is selected automatically by Google.
To fix the issue we need to proceed by steps:
You should report the issue on the Google Maps Help Community, for Google to delete the duplicate blue line on the pedestrian part of Via Dandolo and Via Amendola.
Once the blue line is removed you can take a new 360 video and upload it as usual, to create the new blue line
I’m adding a note, @MarcoDavoli
Usually we can report a misplaced blue line, but in this case the image is not misplaced, it is duplicate, and in fact by clicking on the blue line in front of the Pizzeria you are moved to the blue line in Via Amendola
come stai?
Proverò a segnalarlo e vediamo.
Thank you for mentioning me. I turned 58 yesterday.
There are various issues with the Street View created for this area.
And it seems that everyone participating in this discussion is having a different discussion about different issues that they have noticed.
If you don’t mind, let’s clarify the following points before we begin the discussion.
■What is the issue you would like to discuss?
Please tell me what you intended to be the correct state, when it is processed correctly.
Please tell me how the content is currently distorted in Google Maps.
If possible, please tell me your hypothesis as to what caused this symptom.
If possible, please tell me about other cases (your own or others’ cases) where people are experiencing similar symptoms.
Due to my poor language skills and poor browsing environment, I still don’t fully understand whether the issue being discussed here lies in the coordinates of the photo, the orientation of the photo, or whether it’s the blue line or the blue dot.
By the way, the first anomaly I noticed was that the blue line you drew was about 300 meters off from the correct location.
It’s easy to guess the reason for this discrepancy. It’s probably due to one of the following two reasons:
Poor GPS information accuracy (location offset, time offset)
The time in the “Shooting Start Time” tab in the video header information is incorrect.
There are several reasons why the above discrepancy could occur:
You used the tools that came with your camera incorrectly.
The operation or specifications of the tools that came with your camera are incorrect.
If you could explain the equipment you used and provide the data you captured (JPEG, MP4, GPX, etc.), I’d use that information to attempt to create a correct Street View image using my account.
This would help me determine whether your data is faulty, whether your thinking (overly high and misguided expectations of Google) is the problem,
or whether the current discrepancy is temporary and irreproducible.
And here’s some general information about Street View:
You can only delete blue lines and blue dots you’ve created. If you want to delete an official Street View photo or one created by someone else, you can report the photo to Google for some kind of violation.
You can upload as many blue lines and blue dots as you like in the same location. Photos taken by different users or in different months can be selected and displayed using the Time Machine slider.
The Street View photo that appears first when you click or tap on the map is determined by the Street View system’s proprietary, undisclosed algorithm. The behavior of these versions differs between the web and smartphone app, and depending on the server you’re accessing (see the URL domain).
Of course, there are methods to increase the chances of your photo being selected, but as you can easily see by imagining what would happen if two people used the same method, there is no foolproof method.
The zenith direction and orientation of the photo included in the blue line are determined by the Street View system.
The zenith direction and orientation of the blue dot photo are maintained from the EXIF information of the photo uploaded by the user.
A Street View (Photosphere) of the blue dot is created from a JPEG. A Street View of the blue line is created from an MP4.
If you can draw a blue line using a JPEG you uploaded using an app, it’s because that app creates a time-lapse video (MP4) from the JPEG and sends it to the Street View system.
The orientation of the photo displayed when you click on the blue dot or blue line on a Street View photo will change depending on where you click. Please take a close look at the pop-up image that appears just before you click.
As you know I love doing StreetView and, the place we are discussing, is among the one I visit every year. This picture show the StreetView I’ve done in this area:
My friend is the owner of this new “Pizzeria Friggitoria Cavaliere” and knowing my passion about Google Maps asked me if there is the possibility to fix this: “On Google Maps when you search this place you saw this image and, in the right bottom corner there is a StreetView image that IS NOT POINTING TO HIS RESTAURANT. He saw that in many other case the store mentioned is also “centered” by the StreetView image.
FIRST QUESTION: Has been already solved: We / I can not change the image but, as told by @ErmesT , I sent a report to Google Staff trying to explain.
In the discussion I have added another point that IS NOT ABOUT THIS but could be interesting.
In this last years I have updated the system with new StreetView and I also took streetview of the main square, Piazza Umberti I where shops, bars and restaurants are.
These two blue lines are the new StreetView I’v done (this is one) that are not present on Google Maps.
SECOND QUESTION: Why this StreetView are approved BUT NOT visible? One has been approved in 2023 and the second in 2025.
About discrepancy… in general
I’m sure you could be right saying: “ There are several reasons why the above discrepancy could occur: 1 -You used the tools that came with your camera incorrectly. 2 - The operation or specifications of the tools that came with your camera are incorrect.
I’m using an Insta360 X5 with the new GPS Remote - In that area the GPS signal is weak and despite my >200 Km are “enough well positioned” I’d like to fix some of them to have a perfect GPS position. I tried to modify the GPX but even using gpx.studio but was never able to succed. Even if I try to create a new one. But I’ll keep trying. I know that you did a “under the tunnel” streetview. Maybe you have some hints for me.
Thank you for your detailed explanation.
You’ve already done a lot, and you have even more you want to do. That’s amazing.
When you view the Pizzeria Friggitoria Cavaliere POI, the thumbnail in the bottom right shows the photo closest to the POI that can be clicked and displayed on the map.
I think that’s a very reasonable selection.
It’s easy to imagine that if you were to draw a blue line closer to the above POI in the future, that photo would be more likely to be selected as the thumbnail.
If the blue line or blue dot that should be there no longer responds to clicking, or if the blue dot or line has disappeared, it’s mainly for the following two reasons:
A user has sent a violation notice to Google stating that the Street View photo violates some kind of standard.
A malfunction in the Street View system.
The second reason above is something that anyone using Google’s free, best-effort services, not just Street View, should always be prepared for.
Since the service is free and we have no contract with Google, we cannot seek compensation from Google even if there is a problem.
So, don’t hesitate to re-upload the Street View (JPEG, MP4).
If you use GoThru like me, you can simply instruct it to “fix errors.”
GoThru will then examine each photo and re-publish any discrepancies between the data on hand and the Street View Web.
Data uploaded to Street View Studio will be processed correctly if there is a GPX file corresponding to each time point in the MP4.
GPX is just a text file.
In many cases, GPX simply contains the longitude and latitude of the shooting location for each second. That’s all there is to it.
With a little patience, you can create a correct GPX for a 5-minute video by simply writing 600 numbers into the GPX file.
Regarding the blue line inside the tunnel, if there is no entry in the GPX file for that time because there is no satellite signal, you can simply enter the coordinates by hand using Notepad.exe.
(Of course, you can also use any other editor.)
That’s how I draw the blue line inside the tunnel.
Regarding the Insta360 X5.
I don’t know the details of this camera, but it seems to be a very popular, high-performance camera.
However, I have been able to read from various discussions that some sensitive situations have arisen regarding the handling of location information and the behavior of the dedicated app.
Please try gathering information on the following Facebook groups, etc.:
Ciao @MarcoDavoli
About “Street View Trusted Help”.
If you don’t know the above term, unfortunately, you can’t use it.
This Help Center is a closed space available only to those who are directed to it.
However, the Help Center is useless to me. They’re just a call center. Their job is to listen to and summarize user feedback.
Now, there’s another one called the Issue Tracker.
Here’s an example:
I don’t really know how to use it.
However, this isn’t a place to accept user complaints or petitions.
It’s a place where highly technical people discuss issues and write reports on the current status of issues occurring at Google.
(I don’t think it’s a place where people who don’t know this place should easily participate.)
I’m sorry that this information is not of much use to you.
The Street View system you see now is all the functionality you can use.
The results you get are all the functionality of the Street View system.
I tried to take a look at it. It seems quite complex and, more importantly, even though it’s open to everyone, discussions with their team are strictly by invitation only. I will keep studying it.
