STREET VIEW PHOTOGRAPHY BADGE: The Best Photography tips

Some days ago, I made this post: The CoNNect Boulevard- Photography Tips, Anyone? I have gotten a number of tips from many people, for which I am so grateful;

@OliverKIWI

@JacobLED

@AdamGT

and our amazing Moderator; MoniDi

So, apart from sitting and waiting for everyone to bring me tips, :grin: like the ‘Princess of Oz:rofl: , I have being on a ‘Photography tips expedition’ albeit alone.

On one of my various trips across the CONNECT BOULEVARD, I discovered this beautiful post; Mandir Palace Museum : Jaisalmer by the phenomenal @Sanjay_viswa .

@Sanjay_viswa , there are many people who possess a skill, they are exceptionally good, everyone can see they are talented, they are simply exceptional!

There are others who teach a skill exceptionally well but may not be deft with the skill they teach so well.

Now, there is a select breed of people who can do the two; You, my friend @Sanjay_viswa fall into this last category.

Thank you for giving me the best tip I have garnered so far on the ‘CONNECT BOULEVARD’.

Here is what Sanjay ji had to say;

STREET VIEW PHOTOGRAPHER BADGE

For street view photographer badge. you need to download the street view app from google from Android and IOS also you need to upload 50 ‘360 degree approved photos’ to Google Maps. Then you will get this badge.

For taking 360 photos you can either use Samsung 360 cam, Theta 360 devices or can buy some gadgets from amazon which can help you to take photos from your device.

Tips regarding taking photos of Architecture :

  1. Find out the center of attraction it can be the entrance or doors so keep those in the middle frame and snap.

  2. Make sure where the sun is because lightning is more important.

  3. The best time to take the photos of monuments or anything is morning and evening, as nature provides the best lighting.

  4. Also, make sure the camera angle.

I hope the above tips help.

You can add your tips in the comments section below or share a badge you will really like to get on CONNECT.

Great to recognise people who help you @Ewaade_3A nicely done. You can find out more about the Street View Photography and how to contribute at https://www.google.com/streetview/contributors/

Quite a few of us make blue lines on the Map in areas where Google have not covered.

I use the Street View App and the Theta V camera to make blue lines and spheres at interesting places. Making blue lines can be somewhat challenging but it is rewarding to see the road or place that had no imagery and no blue lines suddenly have them.

@PaulPavlinovich Thank you so much for your insightful comment but I must not deceive you; I do not understand what you mean by; ‘Blue lines’ or ‘Theta V Camera:see_no_evil:

I know I can find answers on Google but since you are kind enough to respond to me, I will like you to please enlighten me; that is if you have some spare time because I ask a lot of questions :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Hi @Ewaade_3A no worries at all. The blue lines are indicators when you hover the icon we know as Pegman over the map to show where there is 360 imagery that we can look at. You can see an example in my screen capture below.

The Theta V is a special camera that can make both 360 degree (all around) photo spheres which is a photo in which you are in the centre and no matter where you look there is imagery all around you. It can also make a 360 video which is processed by Google to make the blue lines. You can read about the Theta V on their website https://theta360.com/en/about/theta/v.html. There are other cameras which do this, I’m talking about this one in particular only because I’ve got one :).

You can find out more by looking at my tutorial from this post https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Tutorial-on-creating-a-blue-Street-View-path-using-the-Theta-V/td-p/1131022

You don’t strictly need a 360 camera to do Street View 360 photographs @Ewaade_3A only to make blue lines. You can make a 360 panorama with your phone if you’re running recent Android and have the Google Camera App. You can also do them from within the Street View App on some other phones. For each 360 degree sphere you take about 80 photos and the App blends them into a sphere for you. Look at the section Create or Import 360 photos in this help answer https://support.google.com/maps/answer/7012050

You can read about Peg Man here https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3093484

Hey @Ewaade_3A ,

thanks for mentioning me.

I am honored if I could be a little help.

For the most of my questions is Uncle Google the best advisor.

Otherwise I find it very useful to learn by doing or face to face tutoring. Shadowing is the best way to learn new skills for me.

If you like to read I’d send you some online books as PDF about photography.
