Street View in Oman Phase 1 completed 2024, Phase 2 in Progress

Hello all,
A few months ago I posted about Street View coming to Oman. Well, it did start in February 2024 and my lord, the guys are super busy. It seems like every place I look at, I see extensive network of blue lines.

Look at how extensive the blue lines are in less than 12 months!

(map link)

The work done in 1 year, with only about 7 vehicles that I know of (maybe there are more), is more than what I saw done in several years in other countries.
I’m talking about any street that a truck could pass, there’s street view there (yes they are using pickup trucks).

Oman will have to change their mode of transport to reach some of the most gorgeous places (they probably will) in Ibra, Nizwa, Nakhal, Izki and sooooo many other places where, trucks cannot access, but tiny cars, scooters and bikes can!

It is so amazing that now when I talk to someone out of Oman about something, I could simply give them the map link to see it!

Oman has way more things and places to see than one can imagine.
It puts most of other gulf countries in a burner when it comes to historical and geological places to see.

If you are a geologist, Oman is paradise for you… you can look at the rocks and tell everyone how many thousands or millions of years it took for that layer of rocks to form. You can climb the rocky mountains (called jabels locally) and see ancient life in forms of sea shells and other stuff.

If you love history, well you can travel back several thousand years while traveling around the coast.

Did you know that Tropic of Cancer runs through Oman… many locals don’t even have an idea about that and most visitors, miss this, because it was not an item on their list.
If you like to see culture and tradition, Oman has it as preserved as it can be, and it is not in some remote village that tourists go and those people are showcased… no, you can see real people living very traditional cultural life, even though they may live in a fancy looking house, but their life style is still very traditional and culture remains.

The most exciting thing is that now Street View is here, and people will finally know Oman, they can explore for themselves and see wonders that exist here which they never even knew existed, because Oman does still not even exist for vast populations of the world, they have never heard of it!

Well that’s it about the exciting new adventures that await everyone due to arrival of Street View.

I really think Google Street View is so valuable, because it offers a level of immersion that static maps can’t match. It allows me to virtually explore a location before visiting, giving a realistic sense of the area’s layout, landmarks, and atmosphere. I wish they would bering the 360 camera feature that was on Google Street view on Google maps. For now I use this feature on my Google pixel 7pro. However it was removed for all new pixel phones.
Anyways . Thank you so much for sharing your story and experience.

I think it’s already there!
If you use your phone to search for a place, and there is already a pano close to that place the map on the phone shows that there’s a pano, once you start interacting with it, it is as if you closed the map and you went straight into street view app.

Ein sehr interessanter Beitrag über Oman @SamAlBusaidy
Es ist hilfreich für alle, wenn ein entsprechendes Foto und ein Google Maps Link, als Beispiel, dem Beitrag zugefügt wird.

Indeed, I am just surprised the speed at which they have covered the country. But in reality I should not be surprised. They build roads so fast here that it will leave you sweating just thinking about it.

Indeed…
But things change every day. Plus there are many apps that come in the market. So I’m sure you’ll find something you like to make things easy.
Thank you for your comments.
