Street photography

“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”

― Ansel Adams

The greatest fascination of street photography lies in those lovely strangers, which is also an important factor that distinguishes it from architectural photography landscape photography and other forms. How to take pictures of strangers naturally in public places, freezing the emotion at that moment becomes the biggest problem. Similarly, for many people who have just started shooting on the street, it is indeed very difficult to raise the camera calmly to photograph strangers.

As a result, many people’s street photography has become meaningless follow-up photography. Some people may be photographed, but it is difficult to capture emotions. Such a picture is not so beautiful.

In fact, for many people, taking pictures is not a problem. The problem lies in their mentality. Many people often dare not raise their cameras to shoot strangers because of embarrassment. In fact, we are only the first time, once used to this way, you will find how wonderful the world around you.

Every street photographer has his own experience and skills, such as waiting, framing, speed, continuous shooting, specifically looking for easy-to-shoot objects, etc. In the continuous shooting practice, we can also find our subject matter and good Improve it.

Probably in most people’s minds, street photography is just constantly walking, constantly discovering scenes, and then shooting. This is not wrong, we need to constantly observe in the new environment to have more opportunities to find objects or scenes that can be photographed. But the scene is fixed, and people are constantly changing. People are the soul in street photography. We cannot guarantee that every time we see interesting people in every scene, they make up what we want. It is often possible to move from one place to the next to see if there is nothing to shoot, but still can’t find anything to shoot.

Sometimes, street photography needs luck, but more often, street photography needs to wait patiently, when it finds the right background, waiting for the right person to enter the picture. Wait a few minutes at the point where we think there may be an interesting shooting opportunity, and then carefully observe the surrounding environment to observe the surrounding world, try not to look for shooting opportunities, let the shooting opportunities come to you when you are full of When the street is quiet and waiting, you will suddenly find a bunch of pictures that can be shot in front of your eyes.

This is what I captured near the waterfront after an event - a lone anonymous road worker sat on the bench with his bag and phone.

The colours - fluorescent orange and red, blue and yellow plus grey and black

The lines - both vertical and horizontal

The texture - metal, wood and plastic

The shapes

All added together makes it visually interesting. I JUST CAN’T MOVE MY EYE AWAY FROM HIM

Thank you for the advice @OliverKIWI !
It’s really a little difficult to focus on a stranger and photograph him without his knowledge, because if he looks at you at that moment, he can come and make a scandal.
The law in Bulgaria allows people to be photographed without their knowledge when they are in public places such as on the street, but most people are annoyed by this.

I have photographed people from a great distance.

Best regards!

Thank you for your thoughts -I really love street photography and human is always my subject. We have similar laws here. You can photo him and he can photo you too in the public domain. Unless he specifically asks you not to photo. @mockata2

Hi @karan_iclickthese

Thanks for tagging me. Your pics are nice for sure, but.

Yes, there is a but. This is a very formalistic comment meant not to criticize your pics but initiate a conversation related to what photos we share and discuss here on Connect.

As I understand it the photo rules regulating what photos can be posted on Google Maps more or less also applies to photos posted here on Connect.

And I’m sorry to say that none of your street photos should be posted on Google Maps.

The color manipulation making only the box stand out in red can not be posted because it is manipulated beyond minimal adjustments. The other shots have people at the center or have recognizable faces in them. Hence they should not be posted on Google Maps without blurring the faces.

These rules are designed to keep focus on and show the places. The people takes focus away from the places to people that will not be there when map users look for or navigate to the places.

There are plenty of other online fora where these pics would fit perfectly. But they don’t belong on Google Maps.

I might be interpreting the rules too strict, or you can argue that Connect photos don’t need to follow the same rules, but I think I’m right on this. I would be please to learn otherwise. The argument that everybody share such pics is not really valid here.

Cheers

I met Ansel Admas’ son 15 years ago. Michael Adams is a medical doctor. He hosted a small seminar talking about his father’s work.

Street photography takes times and practice - and rewarding! The feeling after getting a great shot is so exciting! @TravellerG Post yours:)

I will keep all the photos here stick to the initiative and if I missed, please pull us back:) Thanx again
