This Saraswati River in 16th century AD was a river which actually was a distributary of river Bhagirathi (also known as Ganga). The distributary was formed at Tribeni near Bandel in Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal where Bhagirathi branched off into three streams, namely Jamuna towards south east, Bhagirathi towards Kolkata and Saraswati flowed into an estuary near present day Tamluk in East Midnapore district of West Bengal. There it was feed by the waters from the river Damodar. This river played a pioneering role in the development and decline of many river port towns of Bengal, the famous of them is Tamralipta which is now known as Tamluk. It was around 8th century AD that the siltation of the river mouth started. Around 16th century AD the channel of Bhagirathi which used to flow through Saraswati, started flowing through Hooghly, which resulted in the downfall of the port town of Tamralipta. Gradually the upper Saraswati dried up and in the present days people only hears about this river which once upon a time existed, however dried up leaving behind all its glory and tales. However this is one of the very few places where river Saraswati has left behind traces of its once glorious existence.

Hey @Adi_Explore
Nice post for a start. Thanks for sharing the story of this river with us. One beautiful thing about connect is reading and seeing from other countries, nations and people. Travelling without the actual journey.
A pity the river is not as it used to be. Well-done for adding it to the maps. Keep contributing and happy guiding.
Cheers
Sure @WE7 . I would be more than happy to share the facts about the Saraswati river with you. Firstly i would like to say please donât mix this river up with the Saraswati which emerged from the Prayag Sangam. The one which we are talking about here is our Bengalâs very own Saraswati river which actually emerges from the Tribeni near Kalyani in West Bengal as a distributary of the Bhagirathi (also called Ganga). It played a crucial role in the development and decline of the port town of Tamralipta (presently Tamluk). Saraswati has its clear mention in Van den Brouckâs map of 1660 shown in the figure below. Almost 150 years prior to Van den Brouckâs map, Bengali poet Bipradas Pipilai wrote a beautiful account of the river and the surrounding area in his Manasamangal. As the merchant ship of the trader Chand Sadagar proceeded to the sea, he passed through the tri-junction (Triveni ) of the Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna.
@rizbab28 sir, you are absolutely right. However we are talking here about our very own Saraswati, the river Saraswati river which emerged from Tribeni confluence in West Bengal and after its glorious run for over 800years finally extincted around 16 century AD. However the trails that its gushing water flow left behind still bears its silent glorious history. One of that spot is at Baksha village in Hooghly district of West Bengal, India.
Yes @KalyanPal I have added the same in Google Map. The picture you see in my post are the screenshots of the one that I have posted in google maps already. Thankyou brother for your comment.
Thanks a lot @SholaIB friend. You are absolutely true, the beauty of this community lies in knowing the unknown and sharing the jaw dropping histories that shaped up the different nations and lands. Oh yeah and the virtual journey as you mentioned, which has now become a must for travelholics like us who are forced to stay at home due to the COVID outbreak.
Brother @KalyanPal can you please guide me about how to share the location details of Saraswati River Ghat here in my post! I am very new to this community and learning about posting an article properly. The only thing that I made out with my limited knowledge is share the Saraswati River Ghat link:
This is what you were mentioning about brother?
