Walking is a great way to explore new places. So, I always try to find the opportunity to head out and walk on the streets whenever I go to a new region, be it a big city or a rural area. Apart from that, I go for a walk in different parts of my city over a couple of months in intervals. In this period, many new businesses are open, and some shops close down. So, I can add those new businesses to Maps, take photos of them and mark the closed shops as well.
Afternoon is a good time to walk as the heat from the sun dies down. But the afternoon lasts for a brief period before it gets dark. Time whisks by as I remain busy on my phone checking if the shops are added to the map or if they require photos or not.
In the evening, as the roadside shops lit up their interiors and front signs, it seems that the storefront images at night contain more details than during the day. This is because at night, the glass doors at the entrance of the shops become fully transparent, revealing the interiors of the shops. Thus, one single image of the storefront enables the viewer to understand the vibe of both outside and inside of the store.
This is difficult to replicate during the day due to strong sunlight, which may cause glare and reflection on the glass doors. Additionally, the sunlight may cause high contrast between the interior and exterior of the stores, which may darken the interior part of the store in the storefront images taken during the day.
