Stay in Jungle-Iraboti Eco Resort & Research Center #SupportSmallBusiness

The single largest mangrove forest in the world is our Sundarbans. This brackish water forest spread in the districts of Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira, Patuakhali and Barguna in the south-western part of Bangladesh is a favorite of the people of the country, tourists come from all over the world to see this forest. Tourism in Sundarbans is mainly based on boats/ships. Many people want to live near this forest, but that opportunity was not there for a long time. This time, Iraboti Eco Resort and Research Center has been built for them.

Most tourists in Bangladesh enter the Sundarbans through Bagerhat District Mongla Upazila. Day-trippers in this part of the forest known as the Chandpai Range usually visit Karamjal or Harbaria. The Iraboti Eco Resort and Research Center has been built in a place surrounded by Nipa palm in West Dhangmari near Mongla. The Dhangmari canal is known as a sanctuary for the Irrawaddy Dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris) of the Sundarbans. If you sit on the bank of the canal, you will often see the pods of this dolphin, which has the ability to tolerate salt water. I visited there during January 20-21, 2023.

Let’s visit the resort with me.

How to go :

There are several bus services from Dhaka to Mongla. As it is Padma Bridge, most of the vehicles ply through Padma Bridge. Tourist transport, comfort transport runs from Syedabad. BDT 700/= for AC bus fare from Abdullahpur leaving BM line. Besides, Mongla can take the Dhaka-Khulna car via Khulna or get down at Katakhali on the way to Khulna and take a local bus from there. Non AC-bus fare is like BDT 600-650. To and from the resort will require a Regular Engine Boat fare of BDT 4,000 (BDT 2,000 each way), the trawler can easily accommodate up to 10-12 people.

Best time to go : The best time to visit Sundarban would be early winter before the cold sets in. From the tropical rain trees to Nipa palm to the wildlife, Sundarban is bound to leave visitors enthralled and mesmerized.

Final Word :

The majestic nature of Sundarban can hardly be justified with words or pictures. It’s a gargantuan stronghold at the very south that not only protects Bangladesh from tidal storms but also acts as a sanctuary for the wild flora and fauna. The resort itself also serves as a research center for Sundarban wildlife. Keeping in mind the aspect of protecting the biodiversity of Sundarbans, they have developed this eco system resort. Modern facilities are arranged here in the natural environment. The tourists can easily spot hordes of monkeys and deer as they move along the bank. And if it’s a lucky day, the travelers might even see the royal Bengal Tiger. It is expected to add new dimension to attract domestic tourists as well as foreigners.

Happy tourism!
