The St. Stephen Statue is located in the Matthias Church Premises in Budapest. When my friend and host in Hungary Imre Szucs took me there I instantly realized it was something fascinating. Without a doubt, Budapest is full of attractive sites, and this church one of the most beautiful of all.
The church was built by King Istvan in 1015 and is locally called Matyas Templom meaning the Church of our Lady. Budapest is settled on both sides of the Danube river and the sections are called Buda and Pest. This church is on the Buda side of the town providing great views of Pest from a vantage point. In fact, I could get a 360 view of Budapest and felt like one big eye.
The church is extremely ornate and full of interesting historical artifacts. The atmosphere was beautiful both inside and outside the church as also the work done is eye-catching. The roof is made from local tiles, forming amazing patterns and designs that offer a brilliant spectacle.

Also on the premises and very close to the church is a majestic statue of St. Stephen mounted on a horse. I was a bit puzzled and also astonished to learn that he is also the first king of Hungary, a saintly king or Saint Stephen King and in Hungarian called Szent Istvan Kiraly, the Saint protector of Hungary and the founder of the nation.
Have you seen or been to a church or place of worship with art features? I’d be interested in knowing your experiences.
Until then… Happy Guiding
