Statue of Raja Bhoj, Bhopal, MP, India

This statue is erected on a bastion of Fatehgarh fort now in the upper lake in the North Close To The Gauhar Mahal.

Raja Bhoj was a Rajput king of the Parmar dynasty and ruled Malwa from 1010 to 1055 until his death. He founded the city of Bhojpal, which seems to be a legend.

Bhoja was a skilled warrior as well as a scholar and patron of arts, science, Sanskrit, poetry, astrology etc. He built many schools for the promotion of Sanskrit language. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. The Shiva temple in Bhojpur is still famous. He wrote many books. Bhopal is not mentioned in any of the inscriptions found from his period.

The boundaries of his kingdom extended to Mewar, Vidisha, Khan Desh of Maharashtra, Konkan and Karnataka. The capital of Parmar King Bhoj was Dhar.

After his death he was succeeded most probably by his son Jaysimha-I. Bhoja is remembered for his contributions.
Now it’s a popular tourists attraction visitors are taking selfies and it’s superb picturesque location.

Many people don’t know that Mihir Bhoj and Raja Bhoj both were different people. Here is the difference between the two.
Raja Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty ruled from Dhar in the early 11th century CE and is celebrated as a scholar-king and patron of art, literature, and science. He authored several works and established the Bhoj Shala as a center of learning. In contrast, Mihira Bhoja of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty ruled from Kannauj in the 9th century CE and was a powerful military ruler known for expanding and consolidating a vast empire in northern India. While Raja Bhoja is remembered for his intellectual and cultural contributions, Mihira Bhoja is noted for his political strength and resistance against Arab invasions. Raja Bhoja’s reign is associated with the golden age of learning, whereas Mihira Bhoja’s era marked the zenith of the Pratihara Empire. The former emphasized knowledge and the arts, and the latter focused on military dominance and statecraft.
