This magnificent life-size Marble statue is situated in the Queen’s Park where three roads meet at that junction. This wonderful statue was designed and carved by Sir Thomas Brock, a famous British sculptor of his time.
As Queen’s Park and Cubbon Park are part of the Cantonment area, the Cantonment area still presents a glimpse of the British Colonial era. Like King Edward VII’s Statue it’s also having the inscriptions in the four languages which are Tamil, Kannada, Urdu and English. It mentions that “Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India 1837-1901 Erected by Public Subscription 1906”
A queen Victoria Fund was Established funds were collected by public which includes respected citizens of Bangalore, British officials and Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV.
At the foot of the pedestal it’s inscribed that it was Unveiled by His Royal Highness George Frederick Ernest Albert Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall and York K.G., K.T., K.P., G.C.S.I., G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., G.C.I.E., I.S.O. On The 5th Day Of February, 1906.
