Starch and Banga

Starch and Banga soup is a local delicacy common to the people of Delta state, Nigeria.

I was quite fortunate to locate a restaurant that sells it in Lagos state.

Starch is made from cassava. It is also noteworthy that this is the same starch used to locally stiffen clothes, by laundry men.

Banga soup is a soup made from palm nuts. It goes very well with smoked fish. In this case, mine was served with smoked fish and garnished with periwinkle

It looks really strange, I’d like to try it some day

Hi @MrGunzO , even though that looks like nothing I’ve ever tried before, I would like to try it. I think it all looks good, and the starch looks like cheese so that makes my brain think it must be delicious hahah

Thanks for sharing!

Its actually delicious. A bit stretchy (as I showed in the images). I hope you can get to try it someday

Hahaha… Strange I agree, but delicious :yum:

Hello @MrGunzO ,

Thank you for sharing with us, from the look of it at first I thought it will be sweet cassava dessert.

In Indonesia, where I’m from we use cassava too in many ways but not in such gooey consistency, usually we fry or steamed it. If I may know what is the sauce next to it?, is it savory?

Hello @AngieYC

Thanks.

The sauce next to it is called “banga soup”

It’s quite savory and has a pasty-feel.

I’m sure you’ll like it
