Southern Cuisine, Florida Cajun Boiled Peanuts, Delicious and undiscovered - American Foods

Hello Friends,

As I settle in among other local guides I am really enjoying the participation.

I replied recently to another guides food post and I decided I would share with you all

a very little known recipe that comes from the southern states of the USA.

What really makes boiled peanuts unique is in some areas you will find roadside vendors

and they only sell boiled peanuts. Boiled peanuts only seem to draw a certain crowd as they

are not preferred by many. Some think this is because the peanut is messy and unattractive.

Once you have experienced the flavor all of that is forgotten and you will be returning for more!

I do not know where the recipe originated but it has been around a very long time and it yields

a very tasty peanut. In fact there is a company that produces this recipe and is sold at convenient

stores throughout the southern U.S. states. I welcome you all to make this recipe, it is delicious.

It is made with peanuts and salt, and from there you can flavor even further, as I prefer a ca-jun flavor.

The basic name is “Boiled Peanuts” and you can search Google to find many images of … peanuts.

Southern style boiled peanuts have been cooked in a kettle, crock, or boiled otherwise with water

and a fair amount of salt to make the peanuts salty and delicious when finished. These peanuts always

stay wet by sitting in the brine created until the point of devouring.

My personal favorite is ca-jun flavored which is also prepared as I just described but with added flavors.

I enjoy ca-jun spice, salt, paprika, and red pepper flake. This combination of spices turns on the heat and

adds extra enjoyment to the snack. Most production uses “Green” peanuts, but as they are seasonal and

can be hard to find. In my findings any peanut will work it just may have to sit longer in your prepared brine.

I hope this recipe interests some of you, I know the peanut is not for every palate.

Very insightful post, @KenHaworth - you brought me back to my childhood when my mother used to buy these for my siblings and I, haha. While we don’t usually enjoy them anymore, we did as kids! Interestingly enough, she never gave us any rendition that wasn’t plain with just salt - maybe I should give the cajun option a try as I love those flavors.

Thanks for sharing your recipe with the community!

@SP31

Im glad this brought back a good memory for you!

Thank you for sharing that

@KenHaworth Just fabulous!!! I adore boiled peanuts but I’m not much of fan of the flavored ones (I do like to taste them once in awhile though)… I guess I didn’t grow up with them flavored in Charleston, South Carolina :slightly_smiling_face:
