South Africa - Durban ECR Big Walk 20 May 2018

Durban has an annual “Big Walk” event on 20 May 2018.

about the “Big Walk”

this is a fun run event organized by the local radio station East Coast Radio (ECR), and the biggest fun run in Durban.

There are three walking routes to choose from; 5km, 10km, and 20km. There is also an exciting and all-new 9km fun run as part of this firm family favorite event. Participants in all events will make their way along the promenade, from uShaka Marine World to Moses Mabhida People’s Park.

What we can do with this
we can use this event as local guides to get together and do something as local guides.

  • Starting Point
the starting point is uShaka Marine world, lots of stuff to do or see around here, perhaps a food crawl or a 36 photo event. one could easily spend a week here and still not see it all.

  • Walk the walk
we could do the 5km walk as a group, and meet the locals on a nice easy walk, taking in the ocean view as we go along.

  • At the end
The walk ends at Moses Mabhida People’s Park, there’s a bunch of different restaurants here, and they have the sky car and the big swing:

this is another chance ad a food crawl or “36 walk” photo event, and this is also adjacent to kings park, I am currently “working” on Kings Park making 360 sphere tours and making the indoor map. so I know the area well.

So we have a few options of what we could do, either way, I think it could become an annual event as an add-on to the big walk. ECR promotes it as an event to be enjoyed as a group and for meeting new people so I think this would be a good fit.

If you are interested in joining post here and let me know, and once we have a group then we can decide exactly what we will do for the day, but me personally I would start at uShaka, explore for an hour, then do the walk and end at Moses Mabhida, and explore from there, all on a “36 Walk”

    so who’s in?

This an awesome event and a great occasion for a meet up.

I am not registered this year (fasting and and 5kms don’t gel) .

However there is an opportunity to use the annual event as a ‘definite’ meet up.

Would be great to see the guides numbers grow
