Some of the best meet-up recaps from October 2021

Local Guides host amazing meet-ups all around the world, and they share recaps of their experiences on Connect. Let’s take a look at some of the best recaps from October 2021. Note: Some of these recaps describe offline meet-ups. Before you decide to join an offline meet-up in your region, please consider the local health regulations and guidelines. The safety of our community is our priority.

Photo walk

[RECAP] Durga Puja Photowalk 2021-Narayanganj

@MehadeHasan organized a safe photo walk to enjoy the lights and beauty of Durga Puja, a big religious celebration in the Hindu tradition. He walked down the streets of Narayanganj, Bangladesh, and took many photos of the richly decorated pavilions adorned with statues and symbols. Enjoy the splendor of Durga Puja and learn more about the festival in the Local Guide’s recap.

Map editing

[RECAP] Maps Editing in Barishal

With some educational institutions slowly reopening in Barishal, @KamalHossenR took the initiative to host a map editing walk and update their details on Google Maps. He visited several schools and colleges, making edits, answering questions, and sharing photos of entrances and signage outlining the COVID-19 measures in place. See some more of the helpful contributions Kamal made in his recap.

Accessibility

Recap - 28th Accessibility Meetup in Pune - Public Toilets” and “Recap - Accessible Pune Episode 31 Bus Stops on Baner Road

@TusharSuradkar is devoted to checking the accessibility status of every spot in his city of Pune, India. We loved that he recently spent some time adding photos on Google Maps of bus stops and public toilets, two key infrastructure elements that are sometimes overlooked. His contributions aimed to show ramps, accessibility signage, and more. Check out the recaps of Tushar’s bus stop walk here and public toilet walk here to learn more about his approach.

:wheelchair: [RECAP] Accessible Bangladesh, Part 9 (Mirpur Bus Stand Area)

In October, @MukulR shared the recaps of the ninth and tenth episodes of his “Accessible Bangladesh” series. As always, he chose the locations based on their importance in the day-to-day life of his community. Together with @AbdullahAM , Mukul explored shopping malls, medical centers, and more around one of the busiest areas in Dhaka, Mirpur 10 Bus Stand. @KamalHossenR joined them next for a meet-up at the Mawa Ferry Ghat port, which ended with a great discussion about the group’s future accessibility plans.

[RECAP] Sadarghat - HelpSmallBusinesses (Book Shop) #AccessibilityBD-07 visible walk.

Another Local Guide in Dhaka, @Mohammadalauddin , recently headed to Sadarghat Launch Terminal to see what accessibility features it had. He shared photos of ramps and wheelchair-friendly breastfeeding rooms on Google Maps. He got the chance to discuss the overall improvement of the terminal’s accessibility with the management, too, and you can learn more about his suggestions in the recap.

Thank you @TsekoV for highlighting the meetups especially the accessibility meetups.

I highly appreciate that you could read my mind for I am indeed focused on updating the accessibility status of every small and big place within 2 km of my home before expanding out into a larger space in Pune.
