Some Great Food Places in Defence, Karachi

Hi guys:

Karachi being the metropolitan cities of Pakistan, has its fair share of exciting places cropping up regularly. Good thing about these places is that one gets to taste new cuisine every now and then.

So let me review some of them for anyone who is visiting my city:

1. Kolachi (at Sea View / Do Darya) - Being one of the oldest among its neighboring restaurants, Kolachi has weathered the test of time and people still visit it in droves, specially on the weekends. One might have to wait at least 30 minutes, if your visit is unplanned at prime time (8:00 pm - 10:00 pm). Such is the popularity of Kolachi. The diversity of their cuisine ensures that it satisfies visitors of all age groups, be it kids, youngsters or adults, and the dishes range from appetizers and soups to bar be cue items, to Karahi, Chinese, Italian and much more. Try getting a place close facing the sea, so you maximize the experience.

2. Ala Rasi (behind Khayaban e Shahbaz) - Offering Middle Eastern cuisine, their interior is built in a traditional style. They offer several chicken items in starters and then move on main course meals including (chicken, mutton and beef) and finally end it with Kunafa, Bakhlava and few more desserts.

3. Easy (behind Khayaban e Shahbaz) - A small outlet close to Ala Rasi, they offer several fast food items such as Pizza, Burgers, Hot dogs and Lasagna etc. Their Dougnuts are a must try, and I was pleasantly reminded of Krispy Kremes in Dubai.

Easy’s Doughnuts just melt in your mouth, and although they have several varieties, the glazed ones are enough to make you come for more.

4. Pompei (near Racecourse ground) - An Italian restaurant, Pompei has excellent ambiance. Serving food indoors as well outdoors (on a pleasant evening), guests can choose from a variety of food items such as Pasta, Steak and more. If you are looking for a romantic dinner with a nice ambiance, Pompei is the place to go !

5. Special Salateen Hotel (near Bilawal House) - Although Salateen and Dua are located very close to each other, but my choice has always been Special Salateen. It is not only less pricey, but also has lesser visitors (which means you can comfortably talk and avoid the maddening rush) and the taste of food is as good as Dua restaurant. My suggestion would be to choose a Mutton Karahi, Namkeen Boti and Afghani Pulao.

Easy on the wallet, Salateen has comfortable sitting place on Takhats (wooden platforms to recline on) in the open and is pleasant, even in the steaming summers.

PS: I don’t have the pictures readily available, but I assure you a quick search on the internet, and you will find loads of pictures of these places.

Enjoy !
