Solved: 2-Wheeler option missing

Recently, I returned to India and observed that the 2-wheeler option is no longer visible when I search for a destination on Google Maps on my Android phone. I used to see this option previously. However, I can still see the 2-Wheeler option using the same profile on my desktop. Any suggestions on how I can get that option back?

Start a navigation.
Then select the settings icon at the top.
Then you see this:

Maybe sure the bicycle is selected at the bottom of the page.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen,

As suggested I tried all the combinations, but still I don’t see the option.

Do you think, it could be due to a Sim Card that I use in my mobile phone? My primary Sim Card is of USA and the secondary one is of India.

Please make sure Bicycle is not further down.

Yes, your selected region might play a role. But I currently don’t remember where to find that setting.

Try starting a navigation while connected to wifi.

I don’t see a Bicycle option under the Connecting modes. Yes, I tried Navigation using the Wifi.

Did wifi make any difference?

@ErmesT maybe you remember a relevant setting for this.

Please zoom in on Denmark and line up some navigation within Denmark and check if the bike shows up.

Also, please try in another area of India where you earlier saw the bike. It could be that bike paths are not sufficiently covered in Maps where you are now located.

No @MortenCopenhagen , WiFi didn’t make any difference.

Nope, @MortenCopenhagen , WIFI doesn’t make any difference.
However I’ve made a simulation in Bengaluru, and on desktop I see this interesting pop-up

The reason seems to be that a “biking” layer is not available in the area, and indeed that layer in Bengaluru is not selectable, while in Copenhagen we can select it.

It seems that the presence of cycle paths can activate/deactivate the possibility of choosing that travel mode.

Any additional idea, @NareshDarji ?

As suggested, I tried Navigation in Denmark and I saw the Bicycle option @MortenCopenhagen

I tried the Navigation option in Bengaluru and I don’t see the 2-Wheeler option again. I guess it is something related to my profile on the Phone as my family is able to see the 2-Wheeler option on their mobile and I’m able to see that option on the desktop as I mentioned above.

Thank you, @ErmesT . Coincidentally I tried with the same cities, Copenhagen and Bengaluru as suggested by @MortenCopenhagen . I see a Bicycle option in Copenhagen on my mobile but not in Bengaluru.

Interestingly, I can see 2 wheeler option on the Desktop using my Google profile and my family is able to see the 2 wheeler option on their mobiles in my City (as shown in the below screenshot).

Great feedback. Thanks.

Please share the version numbers for the Maps app on your phone and which version of Android it is running.

Also, please try to restart your phone, if that does not help try reinstalling Google Maps.

If that does not help, please borrow your friends phone and log in using your Google account to check if it is your device or account that carries the issue.

This is more complicated that usual.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen,

Thank you so much for these suggestions.

My phone is running Android 16, and I was using the latest version of Google Maps.

Versions:
Phone: Android 16
Maps:

As suggested, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Maps updates and I can see the 2-Wheeler option now. Finally, it’s working

Thank you so much for taking time out and guiding me with various options. Appreciate it.

I guess settings didn’t get updated after the country change.

For the benefit of other Local Guides, I’d like to add one important point here.

Because Google Maps Timeline data is now stored on our mobile devices (instead of on the cloud), it’s important to back up your Timeline data before you uninstall the app.

Below are the steps for enabling the Backup.

  1. Open the Google Maps app on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Tap your profile picture on the right top corner, then select “Your Timeline”.
  3. Tap the cloud icon at the top right.
  4. If auto-delete is enabled, you’ll need to turn it off.
  5. On the Backup screen, turn on “Backup”.
  6. Tap “Turn on” to confirm.

One caveat though is that sometimes the backup may not start immediately.

I will mark this as a Solution. Thanks once again.
