Yep it is gooseberries.
This type of gooseberry is rary available on Asia.
It is too sour when u consume it.
But it has the very good taste and health benefits behind this .
We can use this as a pickle .

@Tamilarasu yes, this variety is different than the usual round amla which are more common elsewhere in India outside of Tamilnadu. We also use this to make pickles both salty and sweet pickle variety back in Malaysia.
I was searching on the web to get more information on this, and the article from Wikipedia here explains both the fruits nicely.

Ya it was know as amla and we too eat it with salt mixed with red chilli powder. Thank you @Tamilarasu for giving a memory of childhood
