Small Business Spotlight: Honest Soul Yoga

The countdown is on! Our upcoming meet-up with the owners of Honest Soul Yoga and PracticeEverywhere.com starts tomorrow (September 2) at 1:30 p.m. ET and you still have time to sign up. In the meantime, we wanted to give you a preview of this amazing women-owned and veteran-led small business.

During the meet-up, owners Suzie and Julia will be sharing everything from wellness tips to their perspective on the most helpful types of reviews on Google Maps. We spoke with them to get a sneak peek of what we’ll be discussing in more detail tomorrow.

Many of you have shared right here on Connect that you’re looking for ways to help small businesses at this time, so we asked Suzie and Julia for their take on that. “The best thing that Local Guides can do to help the neighborhoods that they love is to rally around local businesses,” Julia said.

One thing Suzie noted that they’d love to see in Google Maps reviews is feedback on their current COVID-19 procedures. Beyond adding fresh reviews and photos that detail this type of information, Suzie also recommends being very specific with your reviews in general, especially when referencing classes. This type of specificity will help people decide which classes are right for them (especially if they’re trying to select an online class).

While some people might not be ready to go back to a place in person at this time, there are other ways that you can support your neighborhood. “It’s important to find creative ways to support local businesses, especially in service-related industries,” Suzie said. For example, Honest Soul Yoga (and PracticeEverywhere.com) allow you to book classes online and also buy class packages for future classes. There are also additional ways to support your local communities, like ordering products or buying gift cards to spend later.

If there was one thing that Julia could share with Local Guides who are looking for ways to help, it would be: “Shop often and be patient,” she said. “For as long as social distancing is in effect, we are going to need every resource we have.”

hi guys … Here is something that Photographers can do to help , and how small business can also help photographers .

One of the things photographers need practice with is Models or Action shots , I often approach yoga instructors and I offer them a photo shoot , its not free , as I retain the rights to the photos and I ask them kindly to always keep my name attached to the photo . I get the opportunity to practice my skills at as photographer , and my advice for a shoot with a yoga instructor is find a spot that is scenic ,and interesting visually , ask the instructor to run through some poses , and then the photographer can grab the best ones . Sometimes like i do in fashion shoots is ask that they do a slow motion routine for me , this gives me time to get the best light , and try different angles.

Do the shoot an hour before sunset or just after sun rise , and even go for foggy weather or extreme weather for effect .

Yoga instructors also make sure you have the best outfit , showing off your body in a good way , discuss your ideas with the photographer , and both work towards getting the shot . Be patient with new photographers. I sometimes get the yoga instructor to take photos of me and I imitate how I would like them to look , and move. They also get an idea on what I see through my lens , and when they have a shoot , they know what will look good.

This is a win win situation for both parties , and it must be said that this is not the yoga instructor posing or modeling for free or the photographer working for free , both have value and so both need to respect and offer their best for the other.

I have a number of Yoga instructors who use the photos i did for them 4 years ago as marketing material. The use the photos on Social media , and even flier when promoting themselves . My name is always attached and 4 years of marketing for a shoot isnt bad.

I also get the practice , and the chance to try and understand and create someone else vision , a valuable tool when going into photography , and believe me , the more experience you get , the better .
